Looks like around this time last year people started getting "decision finalized" ... here's to hoping!

hey guys,

on your status checker for usc, in the "requirements list", does it list out your different application materials or not? my "requirements list" box is completely empty, as is my 'mailings' list, however my application is complete as of 10/21 with no movement. my LOR's are all accounted for on the tracker.

please let me know if something is wrong here...i'm just concerned since USC is one of my top 2 choices...

thank you!

both of those are empty for me too and I am in the "first committee read" stage, so you are fine. :)

This is so bizarre. I'm only slightly below their median LSAT, and significantly above their 75th GPA.

Why am I still sitting at complete 10/31? Super frustrating, I would have thought I'd at least get a 1st read or something.

would you guys conjecture that being a Mexican-American would be more or less of a boost in california? it's the state with the highest amount of mexicans, but not the most-mexican by %..

i thought it would be a bigger boost, since the data says that minority applicants are decreasing (nationally) while the hispanic population of california is increasing (yes, hispanic =/= mexican, but you get the point).

My guess would be less, because I'm assuming they have more MA applicants to choose from, as opposed to say a mid-west school

If you are fluent in Spanish I would think they would look favorably on you regardless

hmm.. i was going to challenge this by saying that more MA applicants would be balanced by more MA people living in the state, but then i realized i'm not even sure whether minorites are supposed to be under-represented on a state or national level.

I just noticed that I updated to 2nd read on 12/5. Who knows what it all means... USC's process sure is mysterious.

I think the short answer is that as USC is concerned, your ethnicity will be less of a boost. It's a private school, so you being Mexican is important and being from California is largely irrelevant.

The reason I say it's less of a boost is because outside of the t14 schools draw disproportionately from their local markets, and LA and CA have huge Mexican populations. USC is no exception to this (isn't like, 40% of its population from SoCal?), and I would imagine the amount of Mexican American applicants that they get is directionally disproportionate.

You're still a URM, but USC might be one of the schools where you get less of a boost because you're Mexican. Conversely you'd probably receive an even better boost at schools like Fordham or WUSTL.

+ a-bagillion. This is absolutely correct. Actually over 47% of Los Angeles County is of Latin/Hispanic descent (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06/06037.html)

Luckily, USC prides itself on it's diversity (I think it's one of the top schools for diversity in the T20), so hopefully it balances out a bit.

Lame. Looks like the decisions this year aren't going to come out as early. :( probably has to do with the decline in applicant numbers?

I've been hearing schools are more "lenient" this year because of a declining applicant pool. October LSAT takes was down 20%, but does everyone think the applicant pool has really shrunk that much ?
