If some of you got 15k instead of the 20k that was discussed on the phone, I don't know how much hope I have negotiating up from 10k as a splitter (2.7/169).

I'm hopeful that they will NEED some high LSATs to even things out and will maybe throw some more money my way.

In a similar boat but with less of an LSAT (164) and really no other competitive offers (18k at UNH, but why would UR give a hoot about UNH?). Be sure to let us know if you have some success upping your offer and good luck!

Will do. Are you coming to one of the ASDs?

Nope, can't make them. I did get out there last week mid-week to visit and do the tour and class thing. Loved it. Nice campus, great people.

Who knows, How long could it take to get a decision from richmond? Still waiting from the 21 of December and there's more than 3 months of waiting.
1) to wait in silence?
2)to write loci?

or what's best to do?

I'll open this with the caveat that I'm by no means an expert on what you should do (there are plenty of people on this site who are far more knowledgeable than I am). That said, I can't imagine it would hurt to write a LOCI. I think, if anything, letting them know you're still interested could only help.

I did not provide a phone number in the application but I applied 2/1 so should I assume that if they haven't mailed me an acceptance letter then I am not accepted? It seems like if I was accepted I would have heard something by now and those of us who have not are "no's".

I haven't gotten info on attire or any details....has anyone? I called to RSVP because I didn't have any other documents with me at the time, and when I went to look later I couldn't find them so I am a bit in the dark

Jenn6406, if you look at the historical graphs on LSN and the numbers that are reported on TLS stats, the acceptances so far seem to fit the decisions that UR has made in that past.

For whatever reason, there don't seem to be a lot of applicants this year who are around the UR medians in both categories. It seems that there are a lot of splitters and reverse splitters. It also appears that, based on the information available, most who were at the median for the LSAT and were at/above the 25th percentile for GPA have been admitted.

From looking at LSN, it looks like they generally come out with their waitlist towards the end of March, so you may end up there. That said, ymmv, as I'm by no means an expert on Richmond's admissions process.

I don't know that it says what the attire should be. I'm going on the 30th, so any feedback you can give on attire would be greatly appreciated.

I applied last year and was deferred from ED in december. I finally received a letter around the last week of march informing me that I was waitlisted. It seems like richmond calls all of the students that they choose to admit through the cycle, and then waits until the end of march to mail out all of the waitlists and dings.

+1 3.4, 161. Idk what is taking them so long. Only Richmond and W&M haven't gotten back to me out of 18 schools. I guess the state of Virginia just likes to take it slow.

I called the other day to check my status (applied a couple months ago), and the woman stated that a decision for everyone (I guess who applied back around the time I did) would be out in the next couple weeks

The 169 seems like yield protect. If UR is a top choice, let them know.

Applied 2/1. Got a wonderful surprise today when I opened my mailbox to find an acceptance-package sized envelope from UR. Opened it to find a message saying, "Thanks for the application. Thought you might appreciate our viewbook." ...Really? Stop with the mailings at this point -- it borders on cruel and unusual punishment.

No, sorry, there was a score posted earlier, but it looks like it's gone now. I was on my phone, so quoting would have taken too long.

Congratulations on admission!

Thank you! Hopefully you've had a good 1L year and will share your insights before all of us 0Ls inevitably freak out in August.

As a TLS lurker, I saw that you planned on working PT this year. I'm also looking at this route, so any help you can provide in that area would be greatly appreciated.

And finally (I'm pretty sure this post is totally hijacking this thread), do you know of anyone who has had any luck negotiating their initial scholarship amount with UR?

It has been a pretty good year, thank you :-)

Working part time is a bit tough. I did not work the first semester (very good decision) but decided to work this semester. I went back to my pre-law school job for part time and also am doing an on-campus job. The two together are less than the 20 hour maximum mandated by the ABA.

There are lots of on-campus jobs, but they pay very little. Lots of law students work at the Cellar, which is an on-campus bar. . .law students are desirable because they're over 21, haha. They post on-campus jobs on the school website on the HR section.

I've been very disappointed at the lack of paying legal work for the summer. I have not heard of even one single 1L who's gotten a paying job for the summer, who isn't going back home to a firm they worked at before coming to law school :(

As for negotiating scholarships, I am just not sure what to tell you. I was VERY surprised at the change in scholarship offerings this year. (I blame the USNWR rankings!) I do know that UR places a premium on having a high LSAT and a high GPA. If either one is below the 25-50% it can hurt the amount, even if the other is higher than the 75%.

That said, the admissions office is SUPER, SUPER, SUPER nice and they will not fault you for trying. . .just be tactful and deferential. Good luck!

Thank you for your quick response! I'm sure you've done great your first year.

I'm very luck in that my employer is going to be super accommodating with my schedule and it pays pretty well.

I, too, believe that the USNWR rankings have a lot do with the scholarship differential. I'm honestly hoping that they will need to raise their LSAT average by a tenth of a point when it comes right down to the wire and they're willing to give me a little extra. I plan on sending them an email (I've had quite a few conversations with them as I spent a TON of time out there while I was studying for the LSAT) pretty soon just confirming that they are clearly my number one choice, but that the financial factors will come in to play. I'm awaiting some scholarship info and hopefully a couple more acceptances before I send the email to try to have some form of leverage.

PS - save your outlines :D

If they're your #1 choice I'd definitely let them know (call, email ,etc...)
