Sometimes I wish the economy was better so people don't need higher degrees for good jobs.

I distinctly remember the babes at Towson being much, much hotter than the ones we had at College Park.ford2city wrote:lol Towson was the promised land. There was one semester that I pretty much took off just because I could. I hung out in our frat house all day and just did whatever with whomever was wandering around. There was a whole week that semester where I played monopoly every day. In my last two semesters at Towson I picked up a second major in economics and still managed to graduate in four years and one summertaxnstuff wrote:sometimes I wish I went to towson.

Re: Maryland Applicants c/o 2015
Well, I am not sure what to think about Maryland now. I got off the phone with Admissions and they told me they don't know how, but they will ensure all tuition and fees are paid for. I told them I will trust them, but I have nothing on paper. I might be making a huge mistake. I still think they purposefully misled me to get me to leave my other schools.
I do know that VA pays last on Post 9/11 GI Bill, but according to Maryland, they say that they have to report to the VA that they are giving me 25k, and since the VA only pays in-state, they won't make up the difference. I still think they are wrong, but they insist they are right. I personally feel they are not making much of an effort to fix this, but I have few options at this point.

Good luck guys. I'm packing for Philly tomorrow. I really wanted to go to UMD but I guess it was not meant to be. My GPA isn't good enough to be taken off the waitlist from the way they're picking people... Good luck to the guys who do make it in!

Sorry to hear that. This whole process has been absolutely crazy for all the people I have been talking to. Best of luck with your future plans.Intranetusa wrote:Good luck guys. Maryland Law...call me maybe! Please let me in off the waitlist!!!! I've pretty much given up but a small piece of me wonders if they'll call some waitlisters if people don't show up to orientation on Monday.

Called admissions today... Was basically told that they did not expect to fill any more slots. So, it looks like the fat lady is getting warmed up and is about ready to start singing.
Maybe someone will drop out at the last minute next week?

I too just spoke with Admissions. Sorry, but no good news to report.
This is what I was just told @ 4:10pm EST:
"It is very unlikely that there will be any seats available by the time classes start"
".... But if a seat does become available we will give you a call."
"... an e-mail will go out after the first day of classes, informing wait-lister's of our inability to accept their application"
"We probably will not admit any students after the first day of class...."
For those with their fingers still crossed, Good luck.

Hmm.... No Yellow Ribbon Program funding available?
OK, rant time...
There is a A LOT of federal money that comes along with the Post 9-11 GI Bill, Yellow Ribbon Program, etc... and I would think that colleges and universities of all shapes and sizes would be trying to maximize those funding sources, especially in this economic climate. Ultimately, if UMD (or any other law school) wanted to give each and every veteran eligible for the 9-11 GI Bill and YRP a "tuition free" education they could do so and only shell out grants for a fraction of the total cost (whatever the GI Bill and YRP doesn't cover for tuition and fees). It's an amazing and well-deserved benefit for veterans who have served during a time of war. As a former enlisted soldier, I can attest that many people serving in the military (especially those on their first enlistment) are even eligible for additional federal and state assistance because of their low-income status. Moreover, from a purely moral standpoint, it's the right thing to do - After all, less than 1% of the U.S. population has served in the military. Helping veterans transition from the military into a civilian career is the least we can do.

What's the likelihood that someone doesn't show up to orientation and they call somebody from the waitlist?
