Does anyone know if a degree from LSU will hurt your chances of employment in other states or having more difficulty in passing the bar since Louisiana is a civil law state?

My general understanding is that LSU offers a dual curriculum where both types of law are taught. How that translates practically is beyond my understanding though I know that from reading last year's LSU thread, its a higher than normal courseload.

I'm a current student at LSU Law.

The curriculum is a bit more. Example, we are the only students that take a legal traditions class, (that I know of). Some other schools let you choose a track - either civil law or common law. The differences are not that great, but you are definitely prepared to take the bar in a common law state. The benefit is that anyone interested in international law will understand the nature of a civil code.

Applying with at 3.68/162. I'm from Texas so if I do not get in to UH/Baylor/SMU then LSU would be my top choice. Good luck everyone!

Price. Also, LSU seems like a fun university. I would like some form of outlet from law school.

Looks like the first acceptances go out on Dec. 10th, and then periodically from that point on (via last year's admission thread).

I'm also under-review. Good luck everyone.

How do you know when you go under review? Is it when they email saying they've received your application?

Shortly after I got my PAWS account, I got a status checker. This updated last week to under review.

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe it's because I'm an LSU undergrad and already had a PAWS account, but I never received a status checker. I applied in September so I'd think I would have one by now.

It def took a while to get a status checker, I applied in Sept as well. I know that your PAWS account is supposed to expand if you get accepted so you can look at that. However, with you already at LSU, I am not sure how much further it will expand.

What do y'all think about the employment prospects of coming back to Louisiana after going to a T14? I was born and raised in Shreveport, may catch a bite or two up high, but really want to practice in Louisiana. Is it worth it to go to LSU over Cornell or Georgetown etc.?

In the same boat that you are. I have a high school friend that went to LSU who is trying to talk me in to going. It just depends on what you want to do. If you are dead set on practicing in Louisiana, then LSU should be at the top of your list. If you are looking for a judicial clerkship or a biglaw job, then you better shoot for T-14. Have you considered UT Austin? They just moved up to the number 14 slot, and it is safe to say that you could get a good job in LA after graduating there, and it gives you all of the perks of a top tier law school. Fair warning at UT though, since moving to number 14 it looks like they are trying to increase their medians. I was above both of last year's medians and I got swiftly rejected.

welll... let's just say i go to a certain school in a state north of texas that necessitates me dying before wearing anything affiliated with texas 8)

besides that though yeah I guess it just depends... i'm FAIRLY certain I just want to practice in Louisiana (like 80% sure) but I guess I'll work more on this decision if I get in anywhere higher

Throwing my hat in the ring here as well, figured I'd rather have LSU as a safety than Tx Tech (Lubbock is the scourge of the earth). Got my PAWS account today

Lubbock really isn't that bad honestly, but I preferred living in Baton Rouge so that's why I also applied to LSU.

I probably just had a negative experience as a visiting Longhorn. That's where Crabtree killed us in '08

Best freshman semester ever to bad this senior one turned out to be be the most epic of fails. I guess it is what I get for messing with my UT friends after y'alls unfortunate season. The good news is now that the Aggies pouted and took their ball to the SEC Tech is kind of UT's 2nd biggest rival. Don't worry though we aren't going to act like A&M and pretended we are y'alls main rival now or form some kind of selective dyslexia and call you TU. :P.

Been in review since then also with no movement.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
