Do we know from either prior admits this year or past years if this means they are close to making a decision?

Mine also changed to "application complete." Does this mean anything or is this just another way of saying what we've already known for months?

Had the same question. I was like YAY MOVEMENT... oh wait... date didn't change... Someone in the admissions office was probably like "haha look what I did here! Imagine how anxious they'll bee now! tee hee!"

there's gotta be something coming soon. last year they released decisions on thursday, feb 3. plus, there's the big scholarship weekend later this month (pick me, unc! i love you!), so there have to be acceptances in advance of that.

Mine updated to "Complete" from "Complete Ready for Review."

I need to hear something from UNC soon. I'm starting to get all cagey and weird.

Status changed today to "complete" from "complete and ready for review"for me as well. Hopefully we'll hear back within a week or so-I can't stand the waiting.

1. While nationally law applications are down about 12%, UNC's applications are only down about 6% from the past.
2. While the number of applications are down, the quality of applicants has increased this year.
3. The admissions committee is shooting for a residency ratio of about 60% in-state/ 40% out-of-state
4. The admissions office is in the very, very early stages of this year's cycle. They are far away from sending most decisions.

I figure its a little more information for us to mull over.

None of that bodes well for this in-state splitter. Super.

I thought UNC had a charter requirement stating a certain amount of in-state students had to be accepted and that this number was closer to 70%. Not that I'm complaining though since I'm an out of state splitter (sorry Bashy). I still wonder how this fits in with a previous comment that scholarship offers come out later this month, so acceptances must be sent out prior to that. It doesn't make much sense that they are nowhere near sending out decisions then.

Haha, no hard feelings. Hopefully there's room for both of us.

The charter requirement is actually a cap of 18% OOS and it only applies to undergrad admissions. My understanding is that UNC Law doesn't have a set requirement, but customarily gives in-state applications a big boost. See:

"In the application of the provisions set forth in III above, preference for admission shall be given
to qualified residents of North Carolina; provided however, that in recognition of the educational
and other values accruing to North Carolina students, to the institution, and to the state from
participation of nonresident students in the programs of the institution, nonresidents may be
admitted in the entering freshman class in numbers likely to result in no more than eighteen
percent nonresident enrollment in the entering freshman class. "

Sorry bro, but I'm going to call this as questionable. The combo of a brand new poster, a "credible source," and the fact the adcomms generally don't give this sort of info to anyone who asks is just too much for me.

I'm BFF with the Dean of Admissions and he/she that said every person who applied had such good statistics that they are admitting everyone with full rides this afternoon.

Now I'm officially "under review". No idea how long I'll be under review, but at least there's movement. I had above the top 25% in both LSAT and GPA, so logically I shouldn't be too worried, but you never know. (I have this recurring nightmare that I sent in the rough draft of my PS. I wake up in a cold sweat every time.)

My advice: As impossible as it is for many of us, try not be neurotic about UNC's status-checker statuses (and trying to find the "meaning" behind them). A poster above commented that UNC sent out a large number of decisions on 02/03/2011 during last year's cycle. I think that this is the best (and only) indicator we have for what to expect. Try not to read too much into all of these speculative posts...because let's face it...we ALL realllllly want to go to law school in Chapel Hill...and not to sound like Yogi Berra...but we're only going to "know" when we know (i.e. when UNC informs us personally of their decisions on our applications).

I, too, find the "credible source" post to be asinine. However, what if that poster is correct? It really doesn't matter what the admissions officers are doing right now... Why? A) We know they are doing their jobs...and that our applications have not been forgotten.... and B) This is not uncommon as far as UNC School of Law goes... The admissions office TAKES THEIR TIME because they are NOT ALL ABOUT THE NUMBERS. Go on to a different thread and feel free to ask the current 1L's at UNC...they'll all tell you the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if UNC added an interview element to their applications in the near future (circa Northwestern).

Trust me, I have been compulsively checking ALL of my status checkers...and with UNC as my #1 top choice, have checked up on my status with them 10X more than any of the others... Will I stop? Not a chance... Here is to hoping that we all get the acceptances we desire, and that we can patiently deal with the anxiety this LONNNNNG process creates in all of us.

Best of luck to everyone.
