In 3/23 via email. 161/3.54. Still waiting to hear back from Wake and W&L, but will likely be attending.

EDIT: I'm also part Puerto Rican. Sorry about the confusion.

I applied pretty late, wasn't complete until late February actually.

are you URM? If not, then they basically skipped over 100s if not 1000s of applicants with better #s who also applied earlier without even looking at them and looked at yours. Pretty lucky haha

Still stuck on complete

UNC, I have until Monday to accept a scholarship from another school. If I don't hear back from you before then, our relationship can never have the bright future I have envisioned. Thanks.

Same... my deadline is Monday as well. It looks like they updated the status checker a bit, just to say that if you aren't accepted by April 1 then you won't be in the first round of admit decisions, and therefore waitlisted (or rejected), and that they won't pull people off the waitlist until June. I can't wait that long to know what I'm doing so heres to hoping I hear something in the next few days.

I, just today, am under review. Not sure if that means I could be officially accepted on Friday but this is the first progress I've seen made on my application since I submitted it in OCTOBER.

I went under review last Wednesday and was accepted on Friday. Given their 'deadline' of April 1st, I imagine that going UR now is a good sign.

That's just the GPA everyone has to keep while they are in law school. So really there is no stipulation because you would be put on probation/kicked out if your grades fell that low. Anyway, just wanted to clarify that and congrats! :-)

Prior to my note, I'll leave the background since I'm sure people don't keep up with individual's posts...and I haven't posted for about a month.

I have been at "application complete" status since 11/15.

I finally decided to contact the admissions office, and was fortunate enough to have a conversation on the phone with Dean States last night. He was very helpful and I can tell you from my own personal experience, that most of what we take away from this forum as readers, is pure fallacy. UNC, unlike most universities, *actually* reads through every application (cover to cover), giving their application process/review a more "holistic" approach.

The school *has* been diligently reviewing files, and although the wait is agonizing, I am sure that it is to the benefit of most that they review their apps this way. Based on my conversation with Dean States, I know that he and his staff have been working tirelessly to give every applicant's file equal attention. Seeing as how UNC receives THOUSANDS of applications each admissions cycle, and that the admissions office reviews each application in this manner, it is actually impressive that they are able to complete their "first round" of acceptances in such a short time. I do hope this puts everyone at ease, because I can tell you that although the status checker may not show that your file is "In Review", it has absolutely been read, cover to cover, by more than one person in the admissions office.

Through my conversation with Dean States, I learned that (like the status checker illustrates) most (if not all) of the candidates who will be accepted will be informed of this BY April 1. He did acknowledge that there may be "some" (5-15) that could hear back a week or two after April 1, but that ALMOST ALL of their "first-round" accepted applicants will know by April 1. However, if you do not hear back before April 1, this does not meant hat you are "out"... Obviously, though 5-15 is not many, you may still hear back in a positive fashion sometime between April 1 - April 14 (give or take on the latter date).

Then, as the status checker verbalizes, the remaining applicants will either be denied, or waitlisted. Of those who are waitlisted, their applications will be re-reviewed on an "as-needed" basis (after UNC admits who have decided to attend elsewhere, withdrawal). Since this is inevitable, one should take for granted that if they are among those who have been waitlisted, they could still be accepted any time between May 1 and the beginning of the term in August.

Being that UNC is my top school, and because I have waited to hear anything from UNC after submitting my application in early November, I understand how difficult the waiting period can be/has been.

So, I just wanted to pass along this information, and hopefully clear the air by basically restating what the status checker already tells us. Believe me, I did not want to make the phone call. I put it off a very long time for fear that I would detrimentally impact my chances at getting in, but ultimately decided to in order to ask the questions that many of us have had. I am happy I did, and do not think that it will hurt my chances (whatever my chances may be).

Congratulations to all of you who have been accepted! I hope to join you all in Chapel Hill in the fall, and best of luck to those of you still waiting to hear back!!

Please feel free to respond if you have any questions.

Any indication of how many more acceptances there were for them to give out between now and April 1?

Honestly, no... He, rightfully, played it close to the vest. I'm sure their stance is that they really do not need to give us any of that information. However, he mentioned that there were multiple "batches" of acceptances that had yet to be sent out (as of last night). Unfortunately, April 1 is on Sunday..so I'm not sure if that means that tomorrow is their last day...or if they will be working Saturday/the weekend as well.

My gut tells me to give it until about next Wednesday before I start assuming that I am a member of the "waitlist/deny" group.

Best of luck to you!

Did he mention if an applicant would go under review before a decision? I'm still sitting at complete, and I worry that they haven't even opened my file yet.

Admitted Students Weekend

Post by imkaereie » Thu Mar 29, 2012 8:55 pm

Hi everybody! I have a big favor to ask of anybody going to Admitted Students Weekend tomorrow. I'm not able to attend the Admitted Students Days because I am doing a community service project in Chile until the summer - it was a tough decision to make. Is there anyone willing to recap the admitted students day for me - just so I can be aware of what happened and what I missed? I can send you my phone number or email address if that's easier than posting the recap on here for some reason. Thank you so much! I really really appreciate it :)

Status is now: "application complete, under review". The stuff at the top is gone too. Good sign or does that probably just mean a big batch of WL is coming tomorrow?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
