Their admissions office website seems adamant that we shouldn't contact them to inquire about our status, but this is pretty ridiculous. Perhaps they need an office overhaul and hire some efficiency experts. Congress is faster than this.

last year the initial big round went out in the first week of feb. i don't know why there's a handful of dec admits, but it seems to happen the same way each year, per lsn.

You would think that many applicants would be under review already if they hand out acceptances in the next 2 weeks, wouldn't you? I find it hard to believe that UNC would put a large block of people under review, invest the time to look at all the apps, and then send out letters in 2 weeks. Is it possible they don't update their review status?

^^ i think schools use the status checker differently. i've been under review at some schools for weeks before admission, others days, and i'm going into my third month UR at duke. at unc, however, my status changed to "under review," then i was admitted later the same day - literally within hours. it's like they go through the apps but don't mark them as "under review" until they're ready to release a decision. just a guess, though, as i really have no idea what's going on over there.

May I ask when you applied and went complete?

i applied late october and was stuck at a mid-november complete date until the day i was admitted in mid-december. i'm obsessive enough to know that i didn't go under review until a few hours before i was accepted. :)

Good to know (and thanks for informing us). I kind of figured they weren't updating the review status to reflect what was actually happening over there. I suppose I'll just have to keep on waiting like everyone else...guess I'm obsessive and impatient as well!

I wonder if, like Wake Forest, UNC's application volume is up this year?

Hi all,

This is my first time posting on TLS, but I am addicted to reading the what are my chances threads and reading about who's getting in where.

My UNC app went complete on 1/17, anybody else in the same boat?

I am hoping that I will be competitive for UNC (with some $$ too?). I have a 162 and a 3.4lsac GPA, but my GPA gets dragged down by a bad first year in 2003. I graduated last may with a 3.9 from the Guilford College, so I am hoping they weigh that in my favor. My last 80+ hours were at a 3.9 so that should help right? I am also a NC resident, but a white male.

Any thoughts....?

You are below both medians. I bet you get in off the waitlist in July. No $$$.

Ignore the status checker. It is absolutely un-informative. Like a few people have said already, it often stays "ready for review" and then one day you randomly get your decision. I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me, although I didn't really watch the status checker because that involved remembering another password and learning how to use new technology, and both of those things repulse me. But seriously, don't fret too much about it. You'll get an email with your decision in it, probably with no warning whatsoever. Also, UNC is effing slow. I have no idea why this is the case, because Dean States seems like a pretty competent guy to me, but it is. Just hang tight and try not to freak out, because it's beyond your control now.

BUT, if you absolutely feel the need to call, contact Dean States directly. If you call the front desk, there's a 50-50 chance you're going to get a tired, pissed-off lady (there are two of these in the admissions office), which will hurt your impression of UNC, and seriously, nobody else at this school is like that.

Also be careful about posting identifying information, because the admissions second-in-command reads these things and will find you. O.o

Yikes, man. UNC doesn't pick just based on numbers. William, as long as you made a good case for yourself in your personal statement, you'll probably be fine.

lol, do I sound like a professional? No, I'm just a student who's chummy with the dean of admissions and I've talked to enough of my classmates to know that they look at more than the numbers.

Got the same email, even though I went complete 12/9/12 per the status checker.

At least I know they haven't lost my application.

I called and they said they sent it to everyone whose application is complete because some people don't check their status checker... Not sure what's up with that though

Thanks UNC for the e-mail letting me nknow that my application is now complete (when it has been since 11-3)

I also found the decisions starting in late December part funny.... I really hope it wasn't actually the assistant dean for admissions who worded / made the decision to send that to everyone. I'm sure it caused much more "WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY APP" panic than it helped

Went from "complete ready for review" to "complete" today. Quick movement for me.

EDIT: current status date did not change.
