Meh, not really. I'd take UVA over Fordham for NY. Chicago and Penn too.

To argue that higher ranked schools in NY place better than Fordham in NY does not address the initial inquiry. I hope you guys end up somewhere where LRW isn't graded.

Not mad at all, and I am generally known for my niceness. Good luck.

In that case, I've bolded the ones NOT in NY. Hope this little geography lesson helps, try to be less ambiguous in the future. You should probably go back and reread my posts, I don't think you understand the one you responded to.

I don't know what your issue is, since my point was not directed at you, but why don't we also have a lesson in math while we are at it.

11?

HYS is 3 schools. HTH.

Also, if you're not responding to someone, don't quote their post.

You did get me there, posting here while in the middle of a cold call = my reading comp fail. All the same, my point was severely missed. There are a lot of negative people posting in here. If you guys think so lowly of Fordham, withdraw.

The issue is not that we think too low of Fordham, it's that we recognize its place and you don't like it.

Fordham is not the 4th best school for NY (behind only NYU, Columbia, and Cornell). Sorry. Like AMD said, there are a good number ahead of it (most of the T14).

I don't think anyone in here really thinks lowly of Fordham. Would some people rather take a t14? Yeah. That doesn't mean people hate it/think its TTT.

As for negativity, you're honestly the only person I see displaying it.

That's not the case at all. There are places to debate where to attend, a whole forum for that matter. These threads are generally a place for direct inquiries about the school, getting together with future classmates, etc. I have helped countless people in here through PM and directly in this thread. I will continue to do so, and hopefully people who are actually excited about Fordham can come in here and find the help they need.

And the abrasive, snarky attitude continues. Maybe you could just cool it with the defensive, confrontational posting and the thread can return to normal?

Talking candidly about a school's employment prospects, comparing it to other schools, etc. are part of the process. Deal with it.

you guys are killing my fordham buzz can you please all just STFU. whether or not you go to fordham/nyu/cornell and practice biglaw has largely to do with your grades and your class rank. being top of your class at fordham is likely better than being the kid failing out of NYU. IMO.

The fact is Fordham is in the discussion and can be compared with titans in NYC, as well as T14 programs outside of NY...because it holds a very respected and strong reputation regionally. Everyone obviously has to make their choices and give weight to the factors that matter most to them. For some it's the Fordham community, for others its ranking and/or biglaw and for others its an amalgamation of all sorts of factors. Either way, congrats to those accepted and for those still waiting....hang in there and STAY POSITIVE!!

nobody is maligning Fordham's reputation, just being honest about it. it belongs exactly where it is: in a 5-way tie for 30 in the rankings.

Tbh if USNWR took out the numbers for the evening division at Fordham (which a lot of other higher ranked schools don't have), our ranking would be much higher than 30.

Just got into Fordham. Hate to be another downer on what should be a celebratory thread, but I also just read this article from today's NYTimes:
--LinkRemoved--

Does this bother anyone else? Not only does Fordham refuse to provide contraception in their health care plans, but they are doing everything they can to delay implementation of the new health care law... Kinda makes me question the values of the school.

Perhaps. Keep in mind numbers are only one (relatively small) part of the equation. Fordham's numbers are already, I believe, higher than a number of higher ranked schools. Then again, who knows how close the final result is for a lot of schools.

The point still stands, though. Fordham is a good school for NY. Everyone knows this. It is not, however, better than most of the T14.

I have been on the waitlist since 12/1 and have since sent an LOCI, an updated transcript, and an additional LOR. At this point is there anything else I can do to improve my chances of admittance, short of actually going to the school and meeting with someone in the admissions office? I spoke with someone there several days ago and they told me that the waitlist is not ranked and thus, they could not give me an idea of when I might get a response.

In all honesty, those values are entirely conflicting with mine, but I have never run into anything offensive here. As I don't have student health care, I'm not TOO familiar with this issue other than passing comments. I believe there was some resolution though and a way to get BC with your Fordham health care. (It's extremely over priced either way and I don't recommend it)

Thanks Jen for being one of the available students on here, along with nygrrrl and gemini. I appreciate the vigor and passion you have about the program. When all is said and done, those that want to be at Fordham will choose Fordham. My feelings about this program are known....no problem here :) I am so envious for those already accepted!!! Congrats MPern! :D

That's not what Jen was trying to argue. She's just saying there are other things aside from placement and ranking that might drive someone to attend Fordham. For those who don't get CN Fordham is the best choice for those who want to attend a school in NYC.

Not entirely, but yes, the last sentence is true.

People just need to remember not to get defensive about others candidly discussing a school's employment prospects/comparing it to other schools just because they attend that school. It's great to be enthusiastic and praise the school you attend, but let's be open to honest discussions that are pertinent to everyone's cycle and evetual decision. My saying that most of the T14 places better in NY than Fordham does not mean I hate Fordham, nor does it mean that there are no valid reasons to attend Fordham if you got into a better school. It means exactly what I said, no more and no less.
