Just heard back from Fordham

Is it worth it at sticker? Don't care about big law, just a law firm job
In any event, my gut reaction is that if you're looking for a law firm job in the tier below Biglaw, you'd be better off with a big scholly at Brooklyn or Dozo than sticker at Fordham. Fordham placed 5% of its 2011 grads in firms of 25-100 lawyers. Brooklyn was 4%. Hardly any difference. So any significant scholarship at BLS would make it the right choice.

http://employmentsummary.abaquestionnaire.org/home.aspx
That may be the most oversimplistic false logic I've seen in a while.
Presumably, many people who end up in midlaw would have preferred biglaw, but missed the boat.
Out of what's left after those that self-select out of midlaw, proportionately significantly more get chosen from Fordham than from Brooklyn

Math time:
let's assume a conservative 25% out of Fordham get biglaw or a clerkship, and an aggressive 15% of Brooklyn do likewise.

5% of Fordham's remainder (75%) is roughly 6.7% of the remainder
4% of Brooklyn's remainder (85%) is roughly 4.7% of the remainder
Meaning that Fordham's midlaw placement is roughly 1.4 times as good as Brooklyn's
(and that doesn't even take into account the effect of class rank - a somewhat lower ranked Fordham grad is as competitive as a higher ranked Brooklyn grad)

On a different note: 12
That's bad advice. The difference between 4.7% and 6.7% placement is nowhere near worth foregoing a scholarship. You don't leave $90,000 on the table in order to get a 1 in 15 chance at your goal rather than 1 in 21. [I'm assuming he has a substantial scholly offer at BLS; he hasn't said so, but most people with numbers good enough for Fordham do.]
Agree. Poor advice.

Really? Two questions:
1- Is Fordham one of those schools?
2- Are you attending Fordham at sticker price?

Also, i second ajax.

Yo trolls,

What's with the twisted self-righteous/martyrdom attitude that you adopt? Why can't you believe that other people can actually make informed decisions for their future? I think if you're really trying to help, as some of you claim, that you wouldn't put down the people you were trying to convince, that you would package the information at least in a persuasive and appealing way to get people to listen to you.

But then again, I guess there's no reasoning with Interwebs trolls.

So, go play with yourselves somewhere else. Public masturbation of your own egos is kinda gross to watch. The anonymity of the Intertubes will protect you only there: the Intertubes. If this is the attitude you have towards other people, then what's to say it won't come out in your interactions with people IRL i.e. clients? MODS!

Does anyone know if the assigned LRW textbooks are used for the entire year or just for each semester, in which case buying them would save more $ than renting?

They are for the entire year.

What books are they? I'll sell you mine. We had reading assignments in them throughout the year (which were semi optional...) but they came in handy when my prof wanted exact formats from the books for assignments.

AJ, unless you aren't in the system yet, you should be able to go on my Fordham and there is a section just below the log in where you go and put in your info and it will give you your username and a password.

On a separate note, do I recall correctly that some people on this board are AEP TAs?

Go under the student tab... then under "My Information" click student... then registration... then student detail schedule. After that, the number after your legal writing class is your section number.

So my Week at a Glance and Student Detail Schedule do not correlate.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Basically, my Week at a Glance lists more scheduled classes than the Student Detail Schedule (eg 3* property vs 2*)

If you see TR, that's Tuesday AND Thursday. Torts and Property are both 3x a week.

That happens. You have 3 property classes. It does get fixed eventually. My week at a glance initially missed classes, which got me overly excited about such a light schedule.
