I was not in the running at all when I applied to law school, given a background very far from PI. Without Stein, I scrounged up PI opportunities with other PIRC orgs and was on the board of FSSF before I graduated-- I was able to get stipends both summers that way, and will be going into PI now. I absolutely recommend Stein or FSSF if you are thinking about PI-- the support is very much there, if you are looking to find it. PIRC itself is outstanding. Only caveat is that you may have to prove you are serious about public service work if you are making a career 180, as I was. Take the very first pro bono opportunity you are handed, and run with it!

As an aside, I am hoping PI hiring will be in better shape by the time your class graduates. You do have to make your own opportunities, quite literally, by going out and finding fellowships or other funded positions with nonprofits, but once upon a time, organizations directly hired staff attorneys, and they will do so again as funding allows.

Thank you Opera....

Did anybody else get an e-mail asking if you'd still be interested despite the lack of merit aid? I got one today.

for many, that chart should be the controlling factor when evaluating fordham (or any school). definitely more important and telling than the regular rankings.

Especially in light of the recent snafu at GW...

Yeah I remember that (I lurk a lot). Just wondering if anybody had gotten that e-mail recently.

I contacted the admissions office recently and got my current status date updated on the status checker, but I didn't get the e-mail about merit aid. I don't expect merit aid but would still be interested in attending during the evening.

The odds are better that you would not find a full time job than that you would get biglaw? Am I reading this correctly?

That is correct. 43% of NY law school graduates do not find a job. What this misses is that that includes some really really bad schools, like Pace and NYLS (the biggest school in the state), where only 1 in 3 can find a full-time legal job.

Any WL'ster here receive an offer Friday? Wondering how many allotted spaces would be left at this stage of the cycle.

Out of ASD - not out of Fordham. Sorry for any confusion.

Fordham was my number 1 choice from the start.
It's just that with the end of month work due that Friday and my taking the following week off, I can't justify taking any time off this week.

just got in at fordham! however...

i dont think i will go because fordham is just not good enough..looked over some of the employment statistics and boy it looks terrible. i want to practice in nyc but i think id much prefer going to cardozo (yes another joke school) with close to a fullride than go to fordham and end up a beggar.

so all in all i think ill be withdrawing

Indeed.
Hey, for the record, I'm sorry I've not been a better participant in this thread this semester! I totally knuckled down and went for Teh Gradz this term but it came at the expense of keeping up with you all. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!!!

Hey can someone comment as to whether Evening students do particularly worse at OCI? Do a lot of them participate in OCI? Are they looked down-upon by employers for some reason?

OCI bidding instructions say "Goodluck and may the odds be ever in your favor!" at the end. You too can all fight to the death for jobs in a year. good luck to everyone still waiting!

See you Thursday, I'll be the 2nd oldest there. Thanks JC!
Regarding the troll, I must admit it was tough fiving up significant merit money but I want Fordham. However, I can see it being a tough choice given the economics.
