I got an email

With an LSAT like yours, I am sure some money is heading your way

If you can study on the train it's more than feasible.

You will not need every waking hour of every day to study, so even if you just nap or relax and listen to music for those couple hours you will be fine.

Born in a different country, war refugee, etc. which has given me a boost in the cycle.

No, but it makes good use of what would otherwise be wasted time. I plan to do most of my studying on trains/busses, giving me more leisure time

I was accepted to Fordham early november and shortly after they offered me a 20k a year scholly. I have seen a number of people receive 25k and 30k offers. Does anyone have any experience with negotiating money at Fordham and when do you think it is a good time to do so?

Fordham definitely does negotiate, but they also do run out of scholarship money. I would recommend doing it as soon as possible (i.e. once you have other scholarships to negotiate with). IF they shoot you down through email, follow-up with a phone call. I know a few people who were able to negotiate through persistence.

You should always ask. Your numbers are great, so you may be able to get more. It seems they focus more on giving smaller amounts to a lot of people than large amounts to a few people though. With your numbers Fordham probably will not be your best option anyway, to be completely honest.

Is your profile inaccurate? With a 3.9/170 it doesn't matter what UG you went to. Really, unless you went to an Ivy, your UG matters very little in LS admissions (even then it's only a minor boost). You should start negotiating as soon as you have leverage in the form of other scholarships.

I'd actually say the later the better. I didn't get anywhere with any schools early in the cycle, had all my negotiating successes after the first deposit deadline. That's when the schools are more hard up to meet median reqs.

BU/BC/GW are ideal

Nearly every person I know at Fordham who was able to negotiate (which is a decent amount) were successful early on. Clearly if you start early, you can remain persistent. If you start late, you might be too late. Yes, schools are more hard up to meet median requirements after deposit deadlines (i.e. a couple schools threw unsolicited scholarship increases at me since I had multiple deposits), however you aren't going to hurt yourself by being proactive early and avoiding missing out on available funds.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will probably contact Fordham soon and ask them to up the scholly and see how they respond. I wonder if they will increase my scholly despite a mediocre gpa of 3.5x and everyone who received 30k a year seems to have gpa that is better. I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

So you deposited at multiple places? Would you mind sharing where/how many?
