I don't know the answer to your question but CONGRATS on getting off the wait list..... Now get on the phone and start finding out about the need based aid.....Wily wrote:Just got off the waitlist by phone call!
Fordham is the school I was praying to get into, because I want to work in NYC after LS, but I'm not sure if I can go. GW is offering me a lot more money than the, well, nothing, that Fordham is offering me. Fordham said they have no more merit scholarship money left, at least for me.
Have any of you been able to get NEED-based financial aid from Fordham? If so, how much? Thanks in advance.

Hey dingbat, would you mind providing us with the breakdown of the money you received? And what were your numbers? How was the negotiation process? Thanks!

Anyone else notice Fordham is both arrogant and stingy with requests for $$$? Makes you wonder if they're too quick on the uptake w/ respect to law school costs and the legal market...

Fordham might be experiencing lower than expected yield.rkh235 wrote:Munchkin318 wrote:Oh god, I just got back from vacation to find a voicemail from Fordham just saying to call back. I am focusing in on the candidate who is offered money at peer or superior schools but not at Fordham.dingbat wrote:Arrogant - not really; arrogant is to assume you should get moneymanofjustice wrote:Anyone else notice Fordham is both arrogant and stingy with requests for $$$? Stingy - yes, they have less money to give out than some other schools and they just spent $500 million on a new building
Keep in mind that most schools have more or less run out of scholly money at this point, so anyone accepted anywhere is gonna have a tough time negotiating
Also, if you got accepted off the WL, you are a marginal candidate, so why should they give you money?
(not to say they don't, plenty of people get money off the WL)
Any by the way, why is Fordham spending 500 million (500 million!!!???) on a new building? Is that the proper thing to do when law school costs are spiraling out of control? Shouldn't that 500 million be used to fund scholarships for qualified candidates?

They may have been given donations that have stipulations... Some donors require that their monies go to specific causes such as building a new building or scholarship, etc.manofjustice wrote: I am focusing in on the candidate who is offered money at peer or superior schools but not at Fordham.

Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
They should offer aid to qualified applicants (this is a controversial position?) because the cost of law school has increased far beyond inflation, completely out of proportion to the opportunity most law schools, including Fordham, afford. Why should they? Because if they don't, the majority of Fordham law students, which doesn't get jobs paying the NYC market rate, will drown in debt for the rest of their lives. Is that a good enough reason?dingbat wrote:Whyshould they?manofjustice wrote: I am focusing in on the candidate who is offered money at peer or superior schools but not at Fordham.

For a long time Fordham didn't give out merit scholarships at all, only need based.
It's only recently that rankings pressure has led them to start bribing students to come.
Do you think they would have empty classes without scholarships? They'd still fill up. Merit schollys are used purely to buy a higher average LSAT/GPA, which has become thè new standard for law schools, but is kinda ridiculous if you think about it (my money says if all schools stopped doing that, the rankings would remain more or less the same)
Obviously, they find that getting a new building is more important that bribing more students and possibly climbing from being ranked 29 to being ranked 27.
Fordham is, was, and will be 3rd best in NYC and thè best shot at NY biglaw outside the T14.

Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
Wow, I go to the grocery store and miss all the fun.....
Fordham is neither arrogant nor stingy with the aid money they hand out. They simply do not have as much of it as some other schools this year and don't have a lot left at this point in the cycle......
I went to an Alumni Reception here in DC and it was a wonderful event. Dean Martin talked at the gathering and the administration at Fordham is well aware of both the rising costs of LS and Fordham's position among the T-100 schools in regard to how much aid they are able to give their students vs the other schools on that list. Part of that talk was an appeal to the alumni to help them change that and allow them to offer more aid to incoming students.....
So, in summation here, Fordham really does try and they really do care but the budget just isn't there yet. If I get a big law job out of Fordham with no debt I will indeed do my part in contributions to help change that as well but that is a few years away and not everyone can afford to give back in this economy.....
