While we're on the topic, has anyone else here compared UGA to Emory on Law School Transparency? In some respects, the numbers favor UGA but in other respects they favor Emory. It's very confusing.
Things that favor Emory:
(1) For the class of 2009, Emory reports a larger percentage of high salaries - 46% over $75,000, vs 24% over $85,000 at UGA.
(2) Emory has a higher proportion of students reporting salary information - 65%, vs 41% at UGA. Usually, if alumni aren't reporting salary information that is bad news (for an illustration, compare tier 1 schools to tier 4 on LST).
Things that favor UGA:
(3) 10% of UGA graduates got Article III clerkships, vs 5% at Emory.
(4) UGA has an unemployment rate of 2.3%, vs 8.8% at Emory - that's a big difference.
Explanations?
To a degree (3) should mitigate (1), since Article III clerks usually go on to good salaries, and perhaps (2) partially explains (1), although it doesn't usually.
Is the sole reason for (3) and (4) that UGA graduates mostly look for jobs in GA and Emory graduates mostly look elsewhere? Perhaps they're not applying for the Article III positions in GA that UGA graduates get. Perhaps the unemployment percentage is higher for Emory because Emory graduates with low grades struggle to get anything in their home states, whereas UGA graduates with low grades can usually get something in GA. What do people think? Are there other explanations?
