I was accepted Nov. 10 I think and still nada for schollys. I asked someone about it and they said they'd be getting back to more recent admits in a few weeks. Who knows.

I was accepted 10/18 and didn't get the scholly email/application until late November, so don't lose hope yet.

if you've ever been to Gainesville, is it comparable? I'm undergrad at UF right now and I figured the two cities might be alike

Congrats! Do you mind telling me when you completed your app?

I finished mine only about a week ago, so I'm not expecting anything yet, but I've also heard that they make decisions, not based on the order you submit, but based on the strength of your app.

The best way to put it is that Gainesville wouldn't survive without UF. Tally would survive without FSU. There's the grimy undergrad part of FSU, the cleaner graduate hangouts and then the capitol area. It's a great place to live and you should def visit. I love Gainesville and I visit there often to see my sister but it is a slightly different vibe. Gainesville is smaller and less urban than Tallahassee but both are great.

In my opinion, Gainesville is a great place, very similar to where I earned my undergraduate degree, Indiana University. Gainesville, like Bloomington is a college town that is predominantly college students, with a true "College Campus feeling". Tallahassee on the other hand is very different from Gainesville. The city itself is more spread-out and has several areas of lower socio-economic demographic. The college architecture is bland with predominant brick paths, buildings, and anything in-between. The one true sense of school pride comes from an overwhelming love for their athletic teams. However, the law school is just a hiccup away from the bulk of the campus and truly has its own vibe. If you decide to attend FSU please PM and I'll try and give you some safe places to live. I had my bike stolen, lock cut off and all. Please don't let me be your only resource though, but I hope my insight helps.
Gville has its shady areas as well (quite a few actually) they are hard to notice if you don't live here though, and even students that have been here for four years won't know about them (I was a delivery driver, so I'm familiar with areas outside of the "UF zone." I am waiting on other apps to be decided but I will definitely PM you if I have more questions.

Thanks for the advice!

Sure! I went complete on November 18. I have no idea what reasoning they use, but good luck and I hope you hear something soon!

Here's the c/o 2014 thread, and someone made a helpful map of good housing areas last year. The big X area north of campus should be shifted a little bit to the left to cover Frenchtown better, but that's about it. Let's put it this way - the ghetto is visible in this city and there's a fair few homeless people. You're not going to really avoid seeing it. However, Tally has a vibrant community that has a strong commitment to buying local/supporting local businesses and is really pretty (lots of trees/foliage). I guess it depends on where you are from - this was a huge improvement from where I grew up, but to some people it's a big downgrade, as it's not the most culturally forward place in the world (our indie movie theater just closed over the summer - still torn up about that). Tallahassee is what you make of it! :)

The t-shirt and hand written card was a very nice touch. This school seems very considerate of applicants (i.e. quick turnaround, phone call) and organized. I am impressed. I just wish that I could get my scholarship information already!! As an in-state applicant, FSU is edging out UF with their consideration and kindness :) Haven't heard ANYTHING from UF since "File Reviewed-No Decision Reached" over a month ago.

I applied last year and there was no limit that I remember. I just submitted the same PS (~1000 words) and didn't even realize the 500 word max.

I also have a ~500 word short PS, but the app is already transmitted. WHAT SHOULD I DO????

I have no idea, maybe call up the admissions office? I doubt they would be too harsh about it?

I applied this cycle and I don't remember that, my PS was roughly 770 words and it wasn't an issue in my acceptance. Don't stress it
