Did you go? How was it? Is anyone planning on visiting soon? Tickets are so #@(&*@#^ expensive and American offers no travel stipends. *surprise surprise*

I was accepted to the part time program last week. They have not sent any information at all regarding scholarships (including in the welcome letter). Does that mean no scholarship awarded?

Thanks!

Yes. You've even got the "rolling eyes" emoticon to seal the deal.

They just emailed me saying I didn't get any need-based grants. Anyone hear about scholarships? I'm wondering if they'll email letting us know one way or the other.....

Scholarship information was already distributed. Those applicants have until April 1 to make a commitment. All others have until April 15. I have been told that unless both your numbers exceed the medians it is unlikely for an applicant to see merit aid for their first year.

Thought you guys might be interested in this. American ranks 4th in the country for students who graduate with the most debt. Something to think seriously about.

Hey everyone, I need some advice, please. :)

I applied for the dual JD/MA International Relations, 167/3.2. I was denied admission to the law school last week, and was a little surprised and definitely disappointed because I REALLY like the joint program.

I'm in at Minnesota with $$ and was planning to attend unless I get off Georgetown's waitlist (fingers crossed)... but I just got an email saying I've been admitted to the MA program at American. So, now I'm really confused.

I'm wondering if the WCL denial might've been YP? Or if, either way, I might be able to leverage the MA admission to get into the law school? I want to do the IR program really badly but don't want to give up on law to do it... so, anyone think they might reconsider my application given the other acceptance?

Thanks!

You should first call the admissions office that handles the MA and explain your situation. Then call the law school admissions office and ask if they could reconsider. Follow up with an LOCI stating that you want to attend AU-WCL and the MA program. Transmit by both email (scan as a PDF) and first class mail to both admissions offices.

I don't think it hurts to try. The answer is always no if you don't ask.

Same. 55k in loans for one year.. that includes cost of attendance. But on the other thread for American in the Class of 2015 forum, a 3L tells us scholarships for the Spring are available and in good quantity.

I'm going to the April 20th admitted students day.

Delta ticket was less than $200 from Little Rock and DC hostel is less than $30/night.

Also congrats! I just got my acceptance to the MA International Affairs program too. Before I got that acceptance though, I was really worried that I wouldn't get in and the dual degree is the main reason I want to go. So after receiving my law school acceptance, I called the graduate school and asked them my chances - telling them I got into the law school. Apparently, they said, it is MUCH more likely that I get in now that I have acceptance from the law school. I am definitely thinking you can use it as leverage.

I went. The setting was nice- the Signature Room at the John Hancock is always aesthetically pleasing. However, I was less than impressed with the reception itself. There were alumni from several classes in attendance and all of the lawyers seemed to congregate at random points in the room with their classmates or guests. They hardly talked to each other or the admitted students for that matter. It was sort of awkward, really, like an 8th grade dance.

There were a handful of helpful alumni and the woman in charge was incredibly nice though. In the end, I did not feel the camaraderie in the room as I did at the UIUC reception a few weeks back.

(Also, in case anyone is interested in the refreshments offered, the food was decent and there was a 2 drink maximum unlike other schools that had open bar. Not that the availability of open bar matters when picking a school. )

Were you able to talk to any of the alum? Did you get any interesting/juicy info, are they jaded or happy or none of the above? lol

I have a friend that is a 2L right now and I know she did some applications for spring semester, fingers crossed we can get some scholly $ for spring semester. I also found a ton of scholarship info from outside orgs on the ACL website under the outside scholarships links. It looks like I might have quite a bit of homework ahead of me.

WL today at American :/ I am thankful that I wasn't rejected because my numbers are lower than their medians and I applied pretty late in the cycle. Has anyone had any luck getting off the WL? Is that even a possibility?
