Does anyone know if the March 1 date for the Need Access is fixed? I'm not sure my parents will have filled out their portion by then...

Dumb question: what is need access (specifically) and do you need to fill out anything additional to be considered? No one is more needy than I. Lol

NeedAccess.org is an online tool that some law schools use to determine need-based aid. Most of the T14 use it, along with some others (like American)> At their site you can check the list of schools who use it to see where you need to send in your app. According to American, it should be in by March 1 even if you aren't yet accepted, so get on it! :D You'll need all your tax info AND your parents' info, even you are 35 years old and haven't had any support from them in 15 years. It takes a while to fill out, so I would start ASAP.

Also, it costs $28, but you can send it to as many schools as you like - which is how LSAC should treat our reports, if you ask me. $16 for every single school for the same report = ridiculous.

<clip> Also, it costs $28...
This is the same American with a robust criminal defense program and cadre of indigent defense teachers and students, all of whom would reject as unjust the notion of charging a $28 fee to apply for access to a public defender, right?

Does anyone have an idea what is up with AU waitlist and how to get off this waitlist. It seems like numbers really do not give anyone a clear idea of acceptance or rejection from the school. I am completely puzzled now.

How much longer do we have to wait for scholly info?? They said some time in March right? Are we talking beginning, middle or end of the month? Hopefully we'll know by the March ASD.

I got an e-mail with scholarship info this morning. Very disappointed by the amount (and its not an annual scholarship, just for the first year).

I got an email about scholarship info today too! I was actually happily surprised by the amount they offered considering their reputed stinginess.

Wow, I'm above both 75%, and nothing so far. How much did they offer? Anyone who has heard feel free to respond. Thanks and congrats!

Did it come to your personal email...or your American one?

On my visit the admissions counselor was very quick to state that AU offers first year scholarships based upon merit for work done prior to coming to law school. Scholarships for subsequent years are based upon merit for work done in law school. Its a slight modification to a stipulation award, in that you must do well in your first year if you want to see more money.

They offered me $20,000, not ground breaking, but more than I expected. And they sent it to my personal email.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get one of the scholarships offered for 2Ls and 3Ls at AU?

I'm probably going to withdraw since I already got accepted to GW. would have considered AU for $, but there's probably no real chance of getting much if admitted off the waitlist, right?
I wouldn't give up necessarily. I think a lot of it is yield protection. I just got a scholarship after getting in off the waitlist, once I got admitted to the masters part of the JD/MA. Guess they thought I was more likely to go if I got into the full program. But anyway, I did get money off the waitlist so it's not impossible.

Just got an email about the March 1st financial aid application deadline. Does anyone know how firm this deadline is? I don't even want to go to American if I don't get any scholarship money, and I haven't heard about $ yet. I can't tell if I should assume this means I won't be getting any, as I know some schools haven't finished giving out scholarships by this point in the cycle. Blahh. This process is annoying.

They sent it to the e-mail i listed as my alternate email for some reason.

I'm above their 75% on GPA and LSAT and was given less than 20% of one years tuition and its only for the first year.

I'm pretty antsy, as well. It seems weird for a school to send out emails about a firm March 1st financial aid deadline when they haven't even released all scholarship info yet. Or maybe they have and I didn't get anything? I would expect at least a small amount of $, since some higher ranked schools have been generous. I would only consider American if I received a decent amount of money, since tuition is so steep.

ohhh my gosh! I Just got my acceptance email! I could not be happier, this is my number one!

My gpa is 3.1, lsat is 162. I really didnt think I would be accepted!

I know that American is notorious for being stingy with scholarships, but I hope I can manage to get one.. I got one from a similarly ranked school so maybe negotiating might help?

Alright so I may not cross American totally off the list yet, does anyone know if they offer travel subsidies/reimbursements for visiting on the admitted days?
