Absolutely bizarre decisions coming out of American IMO. I get people with T-14 numbers getting put on the wait-list but I have no idea why they are putting people slightly above their medians on it (people that seemingly are more likely to go).

Re: American c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Am I taking my recent acceptance to American for granted? I've got okay stats with 158/3.67 but I'm seeing people rejected or waitlisted with much better numbers. American's definitely an option for me with some kind of money, but I don't think I'm giving it enough of a chance after seeing other folks not getting in.
I'm looking more at San Diego or Lewis & Clark, but is that silly of me considering American is higher ranked and by all accounts, others should have gotten in before me? I'm not downplaying my acceptance or underestimating myself, I'm just... confused. Does this make any sense at all?

WL today, 171/3.96, undergrad Umich, great LORs and pretty decent softs. Said straight out in my app that American was the only place I wanted to go, only place I applied. Not a single person I talked to ever suggested I wouldn't get in, still pretty shocked.

This breaks my heart. I'd start applying to some T-14 schools asap!

Re: American c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I think you have much hope because this is likely a yield protect measure. Think about it, its probable that many students apply to a bunch of different schools stating to each school that it is "the only place [they] wanted to go, only place [they] applied". This isn't necessarily genuine, and how is each adcomm supposed to know if it's a truly genuine proposition. American is trying to call a bluff, show them your cards and they will fold.emaye wrote:WL today, 171/3.96, undergrad Umich, great LORs and pretty decent softs. Draft an LOCI every 6 weeks, send more LOR's, call the admissions office, and visit if you are able. I feel strongly that such measures would get you off of their waitlist.

In all honesty I am kind of disgusted by American's waitlist policy. Pay non-refundable 900$ (towards tuition) or lose your seat within 24 hours of being taken off the waitlist? That is just bizarre and unfair. I also think it is ridiculous (if i remember correctly) that their scholarships are not renewable every year. If they are this sketchy with admissions when they are trying to "woo" us what will the school be like for 3 years? 99% taking my name off the waitlist. just fyi 158/3.89

I agree with all of this. Most people cannot just randomly get $900, especially if they're still in UG. ridic.kjames511 wrote:In all honesty I am kind of disgusted by American's waitlist policy. This stipulation makes me believe that most waitlisted applicants are not considered until AFTER the April 15 deadline to put a deposit down. I agree, for a tight deadline its TOO tight. What if you are out of the country/unreachable? A week would be more reasonable for a tight deadline.kjames511 wrote:In all honesty I am kind of disgusted by American's waitlist policy. There is nothing stopping them from taking me off the waitlist tomorrow or next week thn expecting me to shell out $900. The thought of that is scary in itself. I am waiting the full 2 weeks before I "put" my name on the waitlist (if I do). That way I will at least have between now and thn to hear back from a couple other schools.z0rk wrote:This stipulation makes me believe that most waitlisted applicants are not considered until AFTER the April 15 deadline to put a deposit down. Re: American c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Did their waitlist notice say when they consider waitlisted applicants? I'm waitlisted at a few schools, many of which said they start to re-review waitlisted applicants in mid-april. It might be worth your while to call over to the admissions office to get the story. I agree, smart move to wait a few weeks before putting your name on the waitlist if this is an issue.kjames511 wrote:There is nothing stopping them from taking me off the waitlist tomorrow or next week thn expecting me to shell out $900. Re: American c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
If you go on the American wait list page where it provides you with information about their wait list procedures, it says:
"Selected waiting list candidates are contacted beginning in April through the summer via email."
They probably won't start re-reviewing until the end of March when they have a better idea of who is accepting their admission and who is not. The 24 hour deadline is harsh but if it's not until April, you should hear back from most if not all of your schools and have a pretty good idea of where you want to go.

Re: American c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I had a 154 and 3.4 and got in around Feb if i remember correctly. (I'm a 2L). I'd say there is still time for those waiting. Non-urm and PT -- > FT. But my best suggestion is to not hurry law school, score higher on the LSATs and go to a top law school. (t-14/20). Job market is tough, scholarships are hard if even possible to keep, and the debt is huge here. I just got denied a transfer to GMU:(
Also, I wasnt ever on the WL, but I know people that got off even in July. so you should be fine.

Waitlisted too, which is pretty disappointing, 161/3.66
I spent a whole semester at AU and worked in the law library. I made this exceeding clear on my app. It would have been one of my top picks had I gotten in. I have 15k from Washington and Lee.
Also their waitlist policy sucks.

I was straight up rejected with 3.5/161 from Emory with excellent softs. I'm within the median range so its not unreasonable for me to be rejected but admitedly I was pretty surprised. Hearing about some other inexplicaple rejections and WL makes me feel a little better I guess, but it would have been nice to have that acceptance under my belt.
