So it is basically another word for scholarship? Or will I have a responsibility as an assistant?HapaForever wrote:The fellowship is the same thing as the scholarship. Re: Notre Dame Class of 2015
When I was first informed of getting in off the wait-list, I asked about a scholarship and was told one was unlikely for me. Maybe she wasn't aware that I already had $18,000 per year? Or is this fellowship just completely different from a scholarship?

Fellowship=scholarship. I'm sure they just said they ran out of funds so they wouldn't give you false hope. If your financial aid package said you were given 18,000 a year for fellowship, congratulations! That is your scholarship. They just like to use the word "fellowship".

Was that on an individual page or as part of the packet book they sent you? There is a sample page in the book (says sample on top) that confused me for a minute when I received it.givemea170 wrote:When I was first informed of getting in off the wait-list, I asked about a scholarship and was told one was unlikely for me. I got my package today, and I'm also confused. How do I know if I'm getting money?

When I got mine, it was stated pretty plainly in one or both of the enclosed letters featuring the ND seal. However, I didn't get WL'ed, so there's a chance WL fellowship notification works differently.kellyugkellyug wrote:I got my package today, and I'm also confused. How do I know if I'm getting money?

Unless it is explicitly stated in your letter of acceptance that you have received a scholarship or fellowship, you haven't received anything beyond acceptance.

Is anyone terrified that only 13% of 2011 NDLS graduates got jobs at NLJ 250 firms? More than 87% of this incoming class will not get a job at even a mid size firm.

2009 OCI was brutal for everybody, but I don't see why those numbers affect the incoming class...BeerMaker wrote:Is anyone terrified that only 13% of 2011 NDLS graduates got jobs at NLJ 250 firms? More than 87% of this incoming class will not get a job at even a mid size firm.

Where are you getting these numbers? I have not been able to find detailed employment stats for the class of 2011, and what I can find on the class of 2010 indicates better NLJ 250 placement than you have quoted. It appears from what I have seen that 24%-29% of the class of 2010 landed NLJ 250 jobs. What am I missing?BeerMaker wrote:Is anyone terrified that only 13% of 2011 NDLS graduates got jobs at NLJ 250 firms? More than 87% of this incoming class will not get a job at even a mid size firm.

False. Just false. I'm a current 2L here, so I know this is BS. Everyone on law review (save one or two people who are HORRIBLE at interviewing) and many people not on law review have landed summer jobs with big firms. I would conservatively put the big firm number in the 20-25% range. The rest of people have jobs with smaller firms, government, or public interest.kellyugkellyug wrote:BeerMaker wrote:Is anyone terrified that only 13% of 2011 NDLS graduates got jobs at NLJ 250 firms? ND 3L here, and that info is absolutely true for 2011. Its better for 2012, and based on the anecdotal evidence I have its seems like a much beter outlook for 2013. And there's a policy change in OCI that should help future classes too. But yes, ND did have some less than stellar years post-Lehman.steubenville wrote:False. Just false. Just you should also remember there's a lot of people here that target non-major markets. There are lots of large/medium sized firms in mid-markets that don't make the NLJ250 cut.

Brutal across the board. If the numbers stay where they were in 2011, ANYBODY going to law school, including T6, hoping for biglaw is an idiot since even T6 placement is a coin flip.
Things will get better, class of 2015's OCI will be 4 years removed from the worst of the recession.

Agreed, and there is a significant policy change going on for OCI that actually help boost these numbers for future classes.zozin wrote:2011? http://www.law.com/jsp/nlj/PubArticleNL ... slreturn=1

It is my understanding that the worst of the recession is upon us. Despite what economists say is a slight turn around in the evonomy in 2011, NDLS still dropped from 23% to a sickening 13%. What on earth will it be next, 6%? Based on the downward trend, what makes people optimistic? I ask because there seems to be optimism in the minds of the above posters.zozin wrote:2011? http://www.law.com/jsp/nlj/PubArticleNL ... slreturn=1

Also how could a policy change make T250 firms hire more than 13%?

Switch from OCI bidding/lottery to preselects. Some firms won't come to OCI unless they can do preselects.BeerMaker wrote:It is my understanding that the worst of the recession is upon us. Thanks, spite. If you had to throw out a guess, what do you think the percentage will read for the class of 2013?SpiteFence wrote:Switch from OCI bidding/lottery to preselects. Re: Notre Dame Class of 2015
People don't get NLJ250 jobs the year they graduate, they get them during OCI, 2 years before they graduate. So the class of 2011 was doing OCI during the fall of 2009, after the financial meltdown. The class of 2010 was doing OCI in the fall of 2008, when stuff wasn't that bad.BeerMaker wrote: It is my understanding that the worst of the recession is upon us.
