I think I've narrowed it down to Seattle, Rutgers Newark and Cincinnati. But it changes sometimes. Did you decide against SU because of the stipulation?KibblesnBitts wrote:I'm not going to decide until the deadlines at this point - many options to consider. This certainly may have been covered earlier in the thread but I may have missed it. Has anyone successfully (or unsuccessfully I guess) tried negotiating their scholarships for more $$ from Seattle U?

No I didn't apply for the scholars for justice scholly. I applied for FT Summer entry day program and I've been complete since 1/5, but I haven't heard from them yet! My 7weeks is over, and im really concerned at this point cuz Seattle U is my number one choice!

I called admissions and was advised to write a letter identifying specific scholarships that I believe I would qualify for. I am also an east coaster and the move would be significant for my fiance and I. The admissions rep suggested I mention that as well.RaleighStClair wrote:This certainly may have been covered earlier in the thread but I may have missed it. This said, it doesn't sound like SU is very generous with scholarship money.

I submitted a request for additional funding and was also denied via email. It only took about a week to hear back from them so at least they didn't leave me hanging. SU is still my first choice but the money from Gonzaga is pretty tempting.

Did you have peer school offers to negotiate with?

Was accepted over the weekend. I will be withdrawing my app to attend Oregon, unless LClark come knocking on my door.

Re: Seattle University c/o 2015
Have you considered where you would eventually like to practice? Seattle already has enough competition between SU and UW, so if you do choose Gonzaga, you are potentially limiting your career to Eastern WA (at least until you establish yourself). I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but I think it needs to be strongly considered when deciding between these two schools. It's quite a trek over to Spokane, but I would highly recommend visiting both schools and sitting in on a class.Rosem80 wrote:I submitted a request for additional funding and was also denied via email. Also, scholarships at SU seem to be primarily merit based, so unless you have numbers above the 75% percentile (160 LSAT, 3.5 GPA), I wouldn't expect much if anything. There are exceptions to the merit based scholarships, but you probably would have applied specifically for these.

I'll be there. And since I wasn't able to attend the alumni luncheon I've saved my avatar costume for this.neeko wrote:Anyone else going to the open house on Friday?

By tomorrow, it will be full 8 weeks since my application has been In Review/Decision Pending. I emailed admission to make sure that there is nothing wrong with my aap. and this is what they said: "It is the expectation that files from the start of January will have decisions posted by Friday". I'm crossing my fingers to hear good news either Thursday or Friday! Good luck to everyone

I tried negotiating, and I did have peer schools with scholarship money and a much higher ranked, and much cheaper school with no money. Still, not a dime from SU...neeko wrote:Did you have peer school offers to negotiate with?

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try next week if I like the school this weekend.CaptAdams wrote:I tried negotiating, and I did have peer schools with scholarship money and a much higher ranked, and much cheaper school with no money. I don't have a that good of an LSAT, but I've got really good softs and a high GPA. I got the feeling that they thought I should feel lucky to be admitted. I have actually disliked much of my dealings with SU. With other schools, I feel like I'm now being courted (even schools ranked much higher than SU). With SU, I feel like they've they think they've taken pity on me.neeko wrote:Thanks for the info. I'm going to try next week if I like the school this weekend.
I'm going for a visit next month. Maybe my opinion will be changed.

Re: Seattle University c/o 2015
If anyone cares, the Dean at SU (Dean Niles) just sent out a letter regarding the budget for next year and tuition is only being raised by $600 (1.5%). It's the smallest increase since before the law school moved to Seattle in 1999 and the first time the increase has been below the prevailing inflation rate in a decade. Much of this was caused by students and faculty pushing for lower tuition, and the budget committee appears to have listened. It may seem insubstantial, but just knowing that the Dean and budget committee were willing to listen to the students is a huge step, and I think that should give you an idea of what kind of leadership we have at SU.

^ That's really good to hear. This may be a dumb question, but your tuition rates are guaranteed for each person based on the amount you pay your first year, right? I remember hearing that somewhere...

Unfortunately, not. Tuition is decided each year about this time for the upcoming year. However, hopefully the news today will mean that things will be stable for the near future.RaleighStClair wrote:^ That's really good to hear.
