I asked them if they had an idea of when all waitlisted applicants would receive their final decisions because they have obviously already started reviewing the applications.. At first the guy I spoke to said he could not tell me anything but I eventually got him to tell me that they are going from scores right now. So much for not having a ranking system, eh?

Assuming he wasn't full of it, it's not clear evidence of a ranking system. It could simply be that they're sitting X number of committed students below their target median LSAT, therefore they need to take enough WL students above that LSAT in order to get to the target. Once there, they can be more choosy about who else gets in off the WL. That would also explain why they're pulling high LSAT folks of the WL left and right while other folks are still waiting on first decision.

Well if that is the case it might be falling in line with the way the statistics are showing this year. There was a large drop in the number of applicants in the US this year so those people could already have accepted something at a higher ranked school, which means they may have to dip lower even sooner. At least that's my hope haha

Did anyone else receive a phone call from the admissions office today?

It was more of a courtesy call to see if I had any questions about the waitlist process.

Maybe they were fishing to see if you wanted to stay on the list... since they didn't have a continued interest form for WL'ed folks to fill out they might be getting a lot of "no thanks" responses to acceptances off the WL.

Anyone else notice the somewhat sneaky way they increased tuition?

Didn't realize it was up! I wonder how truly different the LS&S class is.

Man... that's a lot of money.

Also, for people that tried to negotiate with Houston typically how fast did they get back to you with a response. I just got offered 15,000 from SMU a couple of days ago, but they didn't put the packet in the mail until last night so I won't probably get it until Monday at the earliest. SMU wants 400 dollar nonrefundable deposit by May 15th, and they don't seem likely to extend that deadline. I was ready to move to Houston but now that there pretty much the exact same price I am thinking about switching over.

Definitely try to negotiate. I heard back within a week both times. Maybe try to stress to them SMU's deadline.

THIS. Definitely mention the deadline. I heard within 2 days, so hopefully they maintain that record of being on top of things.

So am I wrong or did tuition just increase by about 2 grand? Or will this end up balancing out once all our credits add up? It's pretty messed up that they sent out that email saying there was no tuition increase and then they sneak this change into the curriculum that just happens to result in a substantial increase in cost.

Yeah I am not really sure how 1 additional hour costs 1700. I thought the protocol was typically the more hours you take the less they charge you per an hour. On the other side hopefully they don't modify the grad requirements from 90 to 91 hours so we can at least try to offset this extra hour in 2L or 3L by getting a 14 hour semester.

Hey everyone, this is completely off topic but I'm working at a firm in downtown Houston for the summer and looking for a place (an apt or room) to sublet. Im not from the area and have heard back from nothing but creepers on craigslist Please PM me if you have anything or can refer me to someone looking for a subletter! I'm graduating from Texas A&M this week and am starting law school in the fall.

Thanks a ton!

Have you considered finding an apartment and signing a year lease through may? Especially as you'll likely be doing an internship (possibly not in Houston) next summer. This would save you the hassle of having to find a subletter.

I'm guessing you're probably staying at the Lofts and this isn't an option for you, but figured I'd mention it anyways. Couldn't hurt.

Thanks for your idea sjwest! I really appreciate it! I didn't mention it in my post but I am actually heading to California for law school (this is my 0L summer), otherwise I would be doing exactly what you suggested!

Thanks for your help guys and apologies for derailing the UH thread. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

Lol yes I supposed I shouldn't have assumed you were attending UH simply because you posted in this thread! This is probably an excellent place to look for a place to live. Best of luck! I'll let you know if I hear of anything.

Does anyone know if they keep scholarship offers separate from general offers of admission coming from the waitlist? Or would it have been included in the general offer packet?
Thanks!

Thanks. I hope they get it mailed out soon then. The deposit deadline off WL was 5/15. It would be nice to know if there is $$ involved before then, haha.

If you were WL I would not count on getting a scholarship given UHLC's stinginess. However, I'm sure it has happened before.
