Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
I sent mine last Monday. I'm still not listed as complete, alas, but that might have been delayed by my interview, which was on campus last Thursday.
I was very impressed with the campus, and especially the law school building - there's even an Au Bon Pain cafe inside
Are you doing at interview?

Applied a couple weeks ago!
The interview definitely got me even more hyped about it; my interviewer seemed so deeply in love with Nashville/Vandy's campus.

Submitting probably tomorrow
Anyone know if they save interviews from past years? I did an interview last year that went really well and would really prefer not to deal with doing one again.

I'm on the edge, but I'll probably end up applying. It would be nice to attend ASW, especially since they seem to be pretty generous with reimbursement.

Can anyone who has already interviewed (with an alum, not on campus) speak to what the format of the interview was? Was it more informal and informational, or did it seem like they had a set list of questions to ask?

Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
It was very informal. He took me out to lunch and didn't really ask any interview-esque questions (whats your greatest weakness, ect). Wore khakies and a dress shirt. He basically broke down the law profession, gave tips on how to break into different markets, what Nashville was like. Asked why I was interested in Vanderbilt and if I had any questions about it. Ended really well, told me that he was going to strongly recommend that they accept, and that the interview is more of a personality fit check than anything else (Read: freak test).crooked wrote:Can anyone who has already interviewed (with an alum, not on campus) speak to what the format of the interview was? I had one last week and it was great. It was really informal, didn't seem like he had been given a set list of questions to ask me or anything. We pretty much just had a conversation about Vanderbilt, about law school, and about my undergrad college (he's also an alumni of my undergrad). It was nice because he seemed to be trying to understand me as a person outside of academia and he definitely seemed like he wanted to help me be admitted, if that makes sense. He told me all about the forms he has to fill out after the interview and he did it the day after our interview and then the next day my application went complete. Great experience overall, very casual.
He asked me to dress casually and I just wore nice khaki shorts and a nice shirt (I'm a girl). It's 90 degrees every day where I am so shorts were definitely acceptable/expected.

Oh, also, my Vanderbilt interviewer said that he sees my whole application before the interview, so he didn't even look at the resume/transcript I brought. Just fyi

Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
I just had mine today and it was just great. Very informal, despite the fact that I met him at his firm's rather impressive high-rise office. I felt like I was being sold Vanderbilt instead of trying to sell Vanderbilt on me, which was nice. Much more comfortable than my interview with Northwestern, mostly because there wasn't a point where I was asked why I was interested in the school and had no real answer, lol (guess I'm not exactly sold on Northwestern, haha).crooked wrote:Can anyone who has already interviewed (with an alum, not on campus) speak to what the format of the interview was? For those who were wondering, my application went complete before my interview but it was like a week or so after I submitted so it may just take time to process.

I had mine a few weeks ago with an alumna at a Panera. It was pretty casual, but she did have some typical interview questions for me. I got to ask a lot about her experience at Vanderbilt and as a lawyer.crooked wrote:Can anyone who has already interviewed (with an alum, not on campus) speak to what the format of the interview was? I'm a little surprised and concerned by the # of people who opted for the interview; I chose not to do one. Since it was optional, I guessed that the interview was a wise option for borderline candidates, but otherwise not essential. Was I wrong about this? Any idea how it might affect my chances of admission/$$? My numbers are well above the 75th for both GPA and LSAT.

I'm in a similar position, but opted for an interview because I thought that: (a) it might help with scholarship money; and (b) it might help prevent me from being YPed. Although, looking on LSN, it doesn't look as if Vanderbilt did much YPing last cycle.ignatiusr wrote:I'm a little surprised and concerned by the # of people who opted for the interview; I chose not to do one. Since there is no place for a 'Why X' in Vanderbilt's application, I thought an interiew would play a similar role. You're not going to bother scheduling an interview if you have little interest in the school, and during my interview I was careful to explain why I was especially interested in Vandy (indeed, I think that was a question).

Tag although I don't think my Oct score was high enough... but I have a fee waiver so why not waste the 16$... plus I already had an interview and I feel it would almost be rude for wasting an hour of the guys time.

Scheduled my on-campus interview today. Really excited for my visit to Vandy and Nashville. Anybody have any tips, advice, etc. about the on-campus interview? Is it any different from the off-campus interview?
Good luck to all of you this cycle!

Wear semi formal. I went slacks, a button down, and a tie, but no jacket. Shows respect for the institution, etc. Half of it will be asking you about things from your resume, etc, half will be info about Vandy. It's pretty relaxed though.Capitalist wrote:Scheduled my on-campus interview today. Really excited for my visit to Vandy and Nashville. Make sure you hit up SATCO for lunch. That place is the bomb.

I got almost no info about Vandy and LOTS of questions about things from my resume. The interviewer was very nice, though. I second semi-formal - I would have felt a bit out of place in a suit.Capitalist wrote:Scheduled my on-campus interview today. Really excited for my visit to Vandy and Nashville.
