I got my phone call last week but I'm still waiting for the official letter.
Appreciate the optimism, but Im 99% certain its a rejection letter. My status date has been without a heartbeat since the beginning of October and I haven't talked to the admissions office once, though I do think I wrote a good essay.
Did you write the "Why UT?" essay? I think its pretty frowned upon not to.
You still have that 1% of hope. Good luck!

I got a letter only and I was accepted. Even went to UT for my undergrad.

I'm guessing I got no call because I wrote no Why UT and they probably figured I wasn't coming.

I didn't write a "Why UT" essay either.

I'm probably dating myself quoting a movie from the 90s, but the comment about 99% certain it's a rejection letter meaning there's still 1% hope....reminds me of Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber - "So you're saying I have a chance!"

I am taking a tour this friday. I was wondering if there is something, in current students minds or prospective students, that I NEED to check out.

Thanks!

No, I didn't write a Why UT essay outside of a sentence or two in my essay. Lol, I guess there still is a chance.

When you guys say "Why UT?" essay, do you mean that essay about a significant learning experience?

I don't know about the others but I included a "Why UT" in my personal statement. I am finishing up my undergrad there this semester and applied to their law school and included that info about why I was choosing UT in my personal statement. I've got my fingers crossed that I can stay at Rocky Top 3 more years! 8) And Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far!

I would just get a feel for the environment. Could you see yourself going to school there? If you have the chance to talk to students, ask them about competitiveness, job prospects, practical work experience (clinics, externships etc.) and things like that. I visited on a weekend so I didn't have the chance to talk with many students, so tell us how it went for you!

Thanks!
Saint_Seer wrote:When you guys say "Why UT?" essay, do you mean that essay about a significant learning experience?
No I mean the Personal Statement. They wanted the PS geared towards why you chose UT and the Essay was the significant learning experience. I just tweaked my orginial PS to make it the significant learning experience essay and wrote a new PS focued on UT for the why UT esssay. So they basically asked for a PS and a "Why UT", but changed the names of the two.

Cutecarmel, where are you leaning toward law school? I saw you got into UGA and Emory as well. Pretty awesome!

@CuteCarmel - I know you've said you have "pretty good" softs but if you don't mind sharing, what exactly are they? Not to sound rude, but there seem to be a lot of people with much stronger numbers and "pretty good" softs who applied early and barely got anything. While I don't think anyone means to be bitter to you (after all its not your decision), it'd be nice to know just what we were missing. But congrats on being one of the lucky few and if you don't go to UT feel free to pass my name on to receive it instead! lol

I'm not sure what qualities they are looking for in the research position, so I can't really say what qualties they saw in me that they may not have seen in other applicants. I'm fluent in Spanish and have studied abroad and have worked with the spanish-speaking community where I went to school. I've consistently held at least 2 part-time jobs during college while maintaining nearly a 4.0 with a double major, which could be a reason why they would think I would be able to handle the research position while doing well in law school. I did a lot of research into UT and made my interest clear in my PS and Essays. I've had various leadership positions with different organizations. I don't really want to go into too much detail/specifics online.

Like I said, I think I am very blessed and fortunate to receive the offer. I don't think about why, I'm just grateful that they chose me.

Move to Knoxville set for March 14th. Anybody have any recommendations for short-term, pet friendly studio/1BR apartments? Churches? Thai / BBQ / Greek restaurants?

Sounds strange unless you are moving into a very homogeneous place where everyone has the same religion. Oh, wait..

I am very excited to visit Knoxville. Looks like there are tons of great places to hike and explore. I can't wait to see the Smoky Mountains.

They are beautiful in the fall when the foliage changes colors. It's my favorite time of year!

Putting my house up for sale, so if I can unload that, there's a very good chance I'll be there!

Touring this Thursday at 9:30 AM.. Im from the area but this is my first tour so I will be asking LOTS of questions and hopefully honest answers will prevail.

P.S. UTK you dont' have to SELL ME, you just have to be honest about WHY I should attend including Pros & Cons... YES all schools have cons people, no denying it.
