I am SO pleased to announce that I WILL attend GA State in the fall of 2012... as one of their Atlanta Law School Fellows.

Well, it has been wonderful, guys, but my decision is that much easier. In no world will I pay the same for Emory as I would GSU.

$60k/3yrs = $20k/yr

Emory Tuition and Fees = $45,098

GSU In State Tuition and Fees = $14,770


Today I learned that on TLS, $25,098 = $14,770

GA State includes books in those numbers too I think... Emory says another 2k for books - so really you're looking at being able to pay GSU twice for one time through Emory even with scholarship... so... that is definitely something to consider.

GSU is the best valued legal education in the country for a reason.

It has come to Emory, being less than GSU.....No sense in that scenario.

It may not be the correct place to hash it out, but frankly, I am offended by GSU. C'est la vie.

Well, even out of state - it would require $70,920 in scholarships to make it the same cost, or $23,640/yr (assuming you get in state tuition your second year, which you should).

If you were in state - that number is $90,984 or $30,328/yr (which it sounds like Emory did give out to some people, although you would assume if you were in the top tier of scholarships at Emory, you'd also receive something at GSU even though clearly, the opportunities are more limited).

I got 60k from emory and nothing with out of state tuition from GSU. That makes EMory 45 x 3 - 60 = 75k (don't include living and transportation since I am old and that is an expense that is already in my finances) and GSU at 33 x 3 = 99 even if I get instate the next two years that is still 59k.....Sucks. I am wondering if I sent my application in and accidentally wrote, I drink too much wine, yell at my kids, and used to kiss all the boys.

I am also confused as to the "mad skrilla 985"......I had to use urban dictionary twice today. ONce for that and once for "bing", which I thought was a search engine, but apparently, it means jail....

I don't think it's too late for schollys... I mean either way you cut it you will save money long run with GSU... but they will be recycling schollys and I still think they will send a few more out when the week is up that people had to accept the first round. I know my scholly was taken back when I received ALS and it will be recycled.

The fact is that GSU doesn't have much money to give out b/c it doesn't charge much.. and ALS is paid for by another group outside of the school and they only choose 3-5 people... so there just isn't much to go around but I think we're talking about a mental thing here. If GSU charged 110k for three years but said hey we'll give you this big scholly and you'll only pay 59 or whatever it was you said then you'd be super thrilled- like you are with Emory. But, instead, GSU just charges reasonable rates to begin with.

GSU is currently the best valued legal education in the country. It's not just price - other schools are less expensive even than GSU - it's bang for your buck in terms of bar passage, employment, income after graduation... they roll it all into one great package. Other schools can tout their rankings all day long but in terms of value per dollar they trail GSU.

Working in Georgia and submitting proof of self-sufficient income is the first step. However, any time spent primarily studying at a college or university will not be counted towards the 12-month requirement. Additional documents such as a copy of your (and/or your parent’s or spouse’s) Georgia driver's license, most recent Georgia tax returns, and a copy of the student's birth certificate are a few of the documents that are required with the submission of the petition.

I've seen that language (or similar) before, but it doesn't jive with the experiences of law students I have known (either at GSU or UGA - but I'm not sure how different the schools are on this point). Getting in-state tuition after the first year has been pretty easy for most. Obviously, that could change due to changes in the law or enforcement mechanisms. I easily got in-state tuition after the first year, but I was going part-time and working full-time. I also had in-state tuition during my first year using the economic advantage waiver - it gives you in-state tuition for the first year if you transfer to Georgia with the company you were working with in the previous state.

Honestly, I've been extremely active my entire 3 years in college (yes, I'm graduating in 3 years) and have done 2 internships. Emory realizes that looking at more than numbers is what will get them the best alumni in the future.

Something Georgia State must do, if they ever plan on reaching the top 25 law schools in the nation.

High numbers does not equal successful attorneys.

I don't mean this to be a dick, but are your numbers boosted by winning a Nobel prize? I'm surprised you got into Emory at all, let alone with scholarship according to your stats and info.

the 3.7 GPA is pretty good, considering the undergrad work is in economics. Plus, maybe he/she is a URM.

I agree... Furthermore, everything is not about #s... Law schools and the legal field need diversity or they will probably only be spitting out people like Justice Scalia...
