Nope, just indecisive and trying to get some feedback! I really do like Athens though, and the difference in the COL is pretty remarkable... though I am originally from NY and did my UG in DC, so even the difference in COL in Atlanta is night and day.....laxbrah420 wrote:are you trolling brah? Has anyone already made a decision? I just sent my first deposit in today, wondering if anyone else has committed or is close to deciding, I haven't seen a uga c/o 2015 thread yet...
As far as deciding between Emory and uga, it sounds as though the living situation makes Emory an easy choice for you. It really depends on where you want to practice eventually, if you're planning on staying in Georgia there is no better place than uga law IMO due to the low tuition, good job placement, and alumni network.

Sending in my deposit today, withdrawing from the other schools over the weekend. Can't resist that in-state tuition and Atlanta placement.
I'm going to UGA!

I want to start in Atlanta so that my boyfriend can finish up school here, but I'd eventually like to move out west, and then back home to NY some time after that. I'd also like to practice internationally...my parents currently live in Seoul, which is a city I'd LOVE to live in/practice in one day. I know generally Emory has better name recognition around the country and internationally, but I think UGA has really been making a name for itself the past few years. Based on the UGA events I've been to, I think you're absolutely right about alumni connections in Georgia.cm2008 wrote:As far as deciding between Emory and uga, it sounds as though the living situation makes Emory an easy choice for you. Actually attending another school's ASW this weekend, but as a UGA UG whose 3 of 4 classes are right across the quad from the LS, I can tell you the tress are in full bloom and they just laid down some fresh mulch/cut the grass yesterday--it's looking very beautiful for the ASW this weekend!mxmatt137 wrote:Anybody attending the open house this weekend (March 31) ?

The north campus vegetation will definitely ensnare some verbal commitments this weekend.

As a quick heads up, give yourself plenty of time to park on Saturday. There is a festival downtown Saturday and the North Deck might be closed for maintenance still. So you may need to park a little farther away.

Thanks for the info. I'll be looking at apartments and things in the morning anyway so I'll just park at the school early and walk everywhere.eandy wrote:As a quick heads up, give yourself plenty of time to park on Saturday. I emailed and asked, they said that they started going through the waitlist, weekly basis, but usually there'll be more openings after first deposit (April 16).

Wear whatever you want. Seriously. At the reception at the end you might speak to faculty so look presentable, but you can wear jeans, nice shorts, etc.jabberwock12 wrote:Hey All! Does anyone know the dress code for the open house tomorrow? I can't find it on any of the emails.

Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Visited yesterday for the Open House. The school itself is absolutely gorgeous but I was shocked at how rude and unfriendly everyone was. I sat down and introduced myself to a group of girls who just stared at me and continued their conversation. I haven't been socially ostracized like that since middle school. And never by adult women. Like, really? One girl was in my section when we broke off and a guy she had been tailing (who was from the midwest, go figure) came to talk to me. She acted as though she hadn't met me and tried to ice me out of the conversation. SERIOUSLY? The current law school students were alright, but the admitted students were very dismissive and had an air of superiority that I haven't seen at some of the Ivy leagues I've visited. And been accepted to. Georgia is a good law school, but give me a break. Unless you go to Harvard, there is no reason to be a snob. It was also VERY obvious that they don't like out of state students. If you are not from Georgia or go to undergrad there, DO NOT GO TO THIS LAW SCHOOL. I had about a dozen people tell me that I wouldn't be able to get a job since I didn't grow up in Georgia which is total bullshit but the fact that people would actually say that...just shows how superficial and ridiculous people can be. Also, everyone was either a current student or graduate of UGA. I was really considering UGA and excited to visit because I wanted to move South for law school and work there after graduation. After I spent four hours at the Open House, I practically ran from the building. It's too bad that there is still that kind of behavior from adults...but I am glad I now know that I would rather not go to law school at all then suffer through 3 years with some of the nastiest (and ugliest..I'm sorry I'm not sorry but "y'all" have nothing on us Yankees) people I've ever met. I will be going to a law school that shows a little more class. Makes my decision hard though, since every other law school I've visited showed more class than UGA.

Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I have some real issues with the above by poster. Not everyone there was a UGA undergrad. Far from it actually. And maybe you sat with the wrong ppl during the reception. The ppl I talked to couldn't be nicer. Maybe it's because you're from up north or something. Idk. But I thought everyone was great and the faculty was very helpful. I will probably be going to UGA next year and I would be thrilled if that were the case. Hopefully you end up somewhere else cuz I wouldn't want to be around someone like you anyways.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
