I don't think he'll take it though.

What's up with the early decisions? I thought Drake didn't review apps until Jan. Regardless, there is no way he'll take it. He'll be going T14 with money or Iowa full ride. Hopefully it's not just wishful thinking on my behalf. Leave the Opperman scholarships to us more normal-numbered kids!

Yeah, this is super bizarre. Unless the Opperman is offered really early with an accelerated acceptance date or something? This would make sense so they could reoffer the funds to other people.

With numbers like that guy has, I am guessing they offered it as early as they could in hopes that he would commit. I know they try to give it to the five best candidates. He's almost guaranteed to be better than almost every other applicant. AT LEAST top five.

That is my hope. There is no way I will be one of the top 5 candidates to apply, but hopefully I can be one of the better candidates that won't be taken away by top schools. It would be strange for anyone with 170+/3.8+ to end up at Drake.

Man, how sweet would having an Opperman Scholarship offer this early in the cycle be? Having that nice of a safety option would make the Iowa wait MUCH easier.

No kidding! I'd love to be able to say a law school in my home town will PAY ME to go to school. Plus the networking is great.

I just looked at last year's LSN and it seems imminent to me that first admits will be Monday. Thoughts?

Quote from their status checker: "releasing decisions until mid to late November." It's officially mid November, so bring on the decisions!!!

Ok, I have a potentially stupid question.

What is the fastest way we hear about decisions? I know it shows up on our status checkers and in the mail, but do we also get an email? And if so, which is the fastest?

The status checkers annoy me. I don't want to continually log into different sites if I can just wait for an email.

I heard via email from all law schools except for minnesota first. You'll get notification that way most likely.

FWIW, i just went back and checked my emails. My app was received 12/21 and I got an admit email 1/13. The email came before the status checker said anything...

That's pretty helpful actually. I think I'll stop worrying about the checkers now.

Thanks for the help! I'll keep anxiously checking my email.

On a completely different topic, how awesome is Collins Byrd?! I have gone to a ton of recruitment fairs and such, and he is always the most engaging person I talk to. As stupid as it sounds, talking to him makes me want to go to Iowa badly.

I've never met him, but I saw a video of him discussing law admissions at a UG school. He seemed pretty cook on that. I've also read an article he wrote for UIB on the PS. He's one of the better known admissions reps in the country from what I've heard.

He can be a bit corny but he has a ton of energy and is always positive. I enjoy talking to him when I see him. He talked w/ me extensively about the difference between the MN schools and Iowa as I was thinking about UMN, WM, and St Thomas. That conversation went a long way in getting me to Iowa (that and being WL'ed at MN :D )

He's got an MBA from Kellogg, so he's got to be smart.

Based on my gmail archive (I didn't know this off the top of my head):

11/15/10 - Application received email from Iowa
12/06/10 - Admissions email from Dean Agrawal
12/08/10 - Email indicating that I could activate my uiowa.edu email address (haha! I though this was funny since I hadn't accepted my admissions offer or anything)

My scholarship information came in snail mail form... But I sent out a bunch of withdrawal emails on Feb 14th, so I'm guessing my scholarship information came on or shortly before that day.

Ohhhh... FTYF (fixed this for you) implied that you thought I was wrong about when my scholarship came in. My bad.

Sorry, joke fail.

Thanks a million for the employment numbers. I've seen an old one of these before, but the OCI info is way helpful. 147 is a pretty solid sample size too IMO.

No problem. If I'm reading the data correctly (which I think I am, but who knows) this statistic seems comforting

Total students = 212
Students in a bar required position = 152

That's 71.7% of graduates in an awful legal hiring atmosphere getting a job that required them to pass the bar. Sure, salaries may not be as high as we'd like, but at least it's likely that the top 2/3 of the class will have a job that we had to go to law school to get.

Which also means that at some point at least the top half should be making good money in my estimation.

The real question everyone should be asking is what time does the ASW after party start?
