Don't worry. I make enough terrible life decisions in 5 hours to make up for it.

+1

Also, just remembered my favorite offensive U of I joke:
Why are there no nativity scenes in Iowa city during the holidays? (highlight below for answer)

Nobody could find three wise men and a virgin!

Should have checked out the law school for this one. I think we have a handful.

No wise men though, sadly.

What a shame. I know the med school has some rather awkward virgins too, but none are to be found in the undergrad school for sure.

They are definitely around in undergrad. Don't pick one up from the bars or you'll have a stage 5 clinger on your hands.

Posting here in case there are any 2 / 3L's that are interested in this.

Iowa Law School EJF Auction

The Item

Blue Grass & Barbeque with Dean Agrawal
Come and enjoy a live bluegrass band and BBQ at Dean Agrawal's home. Up to 25 students. Students may bring a guest. Dean Agrawal will invite five faculty members of the winning bidder's choice. Bidding opens at $300

The list
$25 maximum commitment is the minimum to get you on the list. If the meal goes for less than $625 ($25 x 25 students) obviously you won't owe that. If more than 25 people are interested then those who agree to a higher maximum will be given a spot on the list over those who set a $25 dollar maximum.

In order to make the system fair and transparent for those "bumped", people who notify me last about wanting on the list last for $25 will get bumped first.

Example:

Listed by order of notification--

#1 Maximus: Max 25

#2 Spartacus Max 30

#3 Caesar Max 55

#4 Brutus Max 25

....

Titus wants on the list now with a maximum bid of 35

In this instance Brutus would get bumped off the list before Maximus since Maximus notified me earlier.

The list will be closed at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. No more changes to the list will be made after this point. Your maximum pledge to attend will be kept confidential.

Payment

If you don't want to attend the auction I can hold the money and give you a receipt. In which case you are entitled a refund of a proportion of your deposit back if the meal goes for less than $625 ($25 x 25 guets). $25 - (Winning bid / 25) or if the bid exceeds what students are willing to pay for the event.

Selection of Professors

These ground rules amendable if people think they are disagreeable or unfair. Those who commit to the three highest maximums will each be able to invite a sole professor of their choosing. The final two professor positions will be put to popular vote. Each paying person for the event will get two votes they can assign to a professor or professors of their choosing. Please be aware in professor selections that choosing one professor will come with their spouse as a guest.

I.E. Selecting Bohannan as a guest will get you Hovenkamp. Selecting Sheerin will get you Pettys etc. This is just a means for people to think ahead to maximize the utility of the event for everyone.

Let me know if you have any questions.

You could technically be brought as a guest, I think?

I'd be willing to take anyone from TLS for the right price.

You really do want to go. It has the great beginnings of the world's greatest gunner. Might want to start getting those three piece suits tailored to wear to class everyday and begin work on your desk podium.

I just want to congratulate the 2014 class before the auction tonight. Way to rally and step up to pledge money for the barbeque. Stellar work.

On that same note. Congratulations to us for out bidding the 2 and 3L classes and locking down the Dean and 5 professors for $1,900.

How many LORs did people who got in to Iowa use? I'm having LOR issues as I can't get a hold of one of my recommenders and I am afraid to ask the other because her husband recently died and she has left the university because of it. I should have one on its way to LSAC now though.

I sent two, IIRC. You might be ok with one though... It depends on your numbers. If you're on the fence, then I'd make sure to secure a second one. If your numbers are pretty solid for Iowa's admission standards, one will probably be fine.

Secure a second one unless your numbers are 75%+. Law school admissions is mostly a numbers game. However, you still need to play by the rules. Submitting an app without any recommendations probably wouldn't fly with the adcoms. One certainly isn't the most desirable but it won't keep you out if you have the numbers.

I think Iowa only requires one, don't they...?

I am currently filling out the application on LSAC website, and Iowa definitely requires two letters of recommendation, and no more than three.

Good chance I'll get my score in the next couple of days. Good luck to the rest of the Iowa hopefuls out there that are waiting on a score.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
