I wonder if the current dean situation had anything to do with it...b/c it sure wasn't employment statistics

Doubtful. The only way I could see that situation affecting this current ranking is through most likely peer academic score. But that stayed consistent with the year before at 4.1. Same situation with lawyer/judges score: It has stayed at 4.3 for last two years.

UT's base score of 77 is the same as last year. It's numbers are pretty identical minus a slightly lower GPA median and a slightly lower placement number. I think the reason for the drop boils down to UCLA and GULC doing a better job of improving their overall stats that go into the rankings, rather than UT doing worse than they did last year.

Anyone else think this rankings business had anything to do with why they let a TON of splitters in off of the waitlist a few weeks ago?

I wonder if that's true. If it is, it proves that I was wrong and that USNWR is good for something.

Looking for a quick word of advice.

I was originally deferred from the EA pool to RD pool in December. I wrote a LOCI and Why Texas? and sent them in around 12/15.

I guess it wasn't quite enough and I still got wait listed.

I want to send another LOCI. The problem is that my last one plus the Why TX kind of put it all out there. I don't even know where to begin on this new one.

I really don't have much leverage either. I got waitlisted at Cornell, Vandy, and no word yet from UCLA. I got accepts at Boston U $, UC Davis $$, and a full scholly to Cardozo.

does naming acceptances of other schools actually help ppl get off of waitlists? i never heard of that before, but interesting approach. (i was waitlisted at usc, but have gotten into three top 10 schools. I wonder how they would respond to an email using my other acceptances as grounds for admission? good luck!)

Im waiting a little longer, i think. I am very nervous though because I don't want funds to dry up....

If only GW and USC would actually get back to me about scholly's I could start talking to UT.... but both of those schools are admissions suck-holes without any organization whatsoever (intentionally exaggerated).

I was also wondering if the financial meeting I signed up for at ASW will help at all.... thoughts anyone?

Either way, looking forward to seeing austin for the first time next week!

No. Rankings are all based off of info from LAST year, with the possible exception of peer/employer's rankings that came in late.. Dean had nothing to do with it (unless people sent in evaluations that late, which I doubt) and admits this cycle had nothing to do with it. At least, that's the way I understand how the rankings and stuff are done.

They're simply saying that Texas wants to get back into the T-14 so they're worrying more about their numbers more now, hence the recent admission of splitters off of the waitlist.

does this mean my chances of getting in off the waitlist are done? 165/3.8 AA female. Do not understand law school admissions. was going to retake lsat in june to boost my chances, but now wondering if it is even worth the effort. fml

I am about to send them an email. I got a full-ride, covering tuition and fees, but I am hoping for a little bit of a living stipend.
I am trying to leverage $105,000 from Cornell and $75,000 from NYU. Paying in-state tuition, the UT scholarship is $98,000 for me. Think they will budge? If they do, I know where I am going!!! You heard! And I can start looking for a place in Austin. Maybe I should also mention WUSTL which gave me a full-ride with a living stipend...... ?
Overall it is an odd spread, but I think it is competitive or at least I am having a hard time.

From what they said on the FB group, Cornell and NYU won't get you anything (Something along the lines of "we can't do anything about better schools that you've gotten in to), but WUSTL MIGHT get you something, since it is #20 (They said they would match anyone 20 and up on the FB group).
Good luck!

Good luck! I got the same scholarship and want to negotiate for a living stipend. I don't have much to bargain with though as I'm just a finalist at this point for schollies at NYU and idiotically withdrew from a lot of places prior to hearig back about $$.
