Scrabble has a 177 / 3.8 so I'm doubting it means that much....

< My complete speculation / no real basis behind it
They probably divide up applications among different adcoms who then place it in “admit, deny, discuss with other” piles… We just have someone who’s taking a little longer than the other admcoms..

Let in a 162/4.0, let in a 174 3.3 to balance. There's a complicated system behind deciding who to admit to ensure they meet their median goals.ScrabbleChamp wrote:I'm a learned man, but I don't understand the statement... please explain...Cornelius wrote:Me. Yield protection? Though I didn't think W&M was one of the bigger culprits of this.ThreeRivers wrote: Ok... but there are people who are well above both medians who have been waiting longer than everyone else

Like I said, who knows. I doubt it's a simple "do it based on when they submitted" order in the decision making process.ThreeRivers wrote:Ok... but there are people who are well above both medians who have been waiting longer than everyone else
People are needlessly freaking out. It could easily be that some members of the ad comm are simply quicker in getting through the applications than others.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. I wish I knew what was up with their decision timeline. I'm anxiously awaiting my admit packed. Does anyone have any idea when ASW is? Couldn't find the info on their webpage, though I didn't have time to stalk it incessantly.

I know, literacy is one of my many talents. The point being none of us knows how the committee works through the process, and it's still very early, so:ThreeRivers wrote:Lol which is what I stated originallyCornelius wrote:Like I said, who knows. It's not something you can do. You have to live in VA for a year PRIOR to enrolling in any state school to be considered for residency. So you could move now, wait until the 2013 entering class, and get in-state. Otherwise, you'll be considered OOS through your entire stay.MiamiOxford wrote:Does anyone have experience or know anything about gaining Virginia residency/in-state tuition in the second and third years? Is this a fairly easy process, or what? It would certainly help the tuition debt if I could claim residency for two years. I am from Ohio fwiw.

I got mine in the mail 2 days before I was even notified via email. I don't know if there is a definitive pattern they are following here since some received an email before the package.
My package came via USPS 2 day priority envelope.

Holy stuff... I just looked at LSN for W&M and there is a lot of green over there. I think my chances might be low now given how many people they've accepted before I even got my application in. I just submitted my app this morning.

Keep the selection bias in mind. Only on TLS is early November considered a late app.JoeMo wrote:Holy stuff... I just looked at LSN for W&M and there is a lot of green over there. Not quite right. You do have to live in VA for a year before you can be considered for residency but after your 1L year, you can apply for in-state residency. Just make sure you change your driver's license, title on car, register to vote and file taxes in VA. I know quite a few people who have done this and received in state tuition their 2L and 3L years. Also, your scholarship may be dependent on being an out of state student so you may want to take that into consideration as well.
I'm a current 2L here at w&m so feel free to ask any questions. I'm studying for finals but I'll check back periodically! I hope to see all of you next fall!!

Q: Can I establish "in-state" status while I am a student?bluebird22 wrote:JoeMo wrote:It's not something you can do. A: If you are a dependent and your parent(s) or spouse moves to Virginia while you are in school and fulfills the requirements of domicile, you should petition for a change of status effective 12 months after the move. If you entered classified as an out-of-state student, you must present clear and convincing evidence to rebut the presumption that you are residing in the State primarily to attend school. Residence or physical presence in Virginia primarily to attend the University does not entitle you to in-state tuition rates.
So this is what I was referring to. If the only reason you're in the state is to go to school then the only way to establish residency would be to move a year prior.

Good info guys. It seems to me that as long as you show intent to live in Virginia "for good" and establish yourself via voting, paying taxes, etc., then it is not that difficult.

Re: William and Mary c/o 2015 (2011-2012 Cycle)
This would be correct... I just assume most people only move there for school, as would be the case for me. Even though if I end up working in DC then I might stay in VA but not sure.MiamiOxford wrote:Good info guys.
