did it before the wl. had a dude in my group on wl. they weren't that friendly to him...

How so? Also...wtf... :x

there was 1 chick there that was admitted. all the tour guide did was talk to her. the guide gave me and the other dude a little attention, but wl guy got "just be patient" as the answer to just about every question he asked.

Is anyone else filling out the 'departmental fellowship/scholarship application'? They ask for a pretty specific itemization of the 2012-13 academic year-- wondering if there's a standardized amount that financial aid normally allocates to these things (rent, food, utilities, car insurance, public transportation, books, computer, etc). I can estimate but they'd be pretty general since I don't live in LA.

"Just be patient."

ugh! ucla seriously needs to just accept or reject me. i got into usc (my first choice), but i really wanna know if i get in at my alma mater. maybe i could leverage more scholarship money... but seeing how everyone is getting waitlisted, i'll probably get rejected. oye

So I was admitted, but without any scholarship money. I just recently got a pretty large award from Vandy, and was wondering if anyone had success negotiating with UCLA, and what the best approach was. I'm from the west coast and would prefer school out west to the South, since that's where I want to practice. Thanks!

offered 20k for 2012-13 this morning with that amout renewable pending financial-aid reapplication in the following years.

the email said they reviewed my need-access application and have given me money based on that. i wasn't initially offered a scholly when they accepted me. should i not be expecting to be offered any additional money?

I was offered $1k, after getting 0 in merit aid. I think it's time to withdraw.

I asked this question in the same circumstance a while back and was told by the admissions office that they're still working on merit $$ right now.

Current 1L happy to answer questions. If you're on the WL don't sweat it. Network, talk to profs, visit campus, send LOCIs. I was on the WL last year and got in with 3.9/164.

I didn't get any merit scholarships, but I would expect that they are probably not going to give too many out. There was a big UC tuition increase last year and the law school absorbed the price increase, so don't be surprised if they're not forthcoming with the scholarships.

As for double bruins, I am not one, but there are something like 50 double bruins in our class of 320. I know of at least one who got in off the WL. I have also heard that it's harder to get in as a bruin undergrad. Good luck.

If you get in, you have a soul breaking year of drudgery, sleeplessness, poor diet, and declining eyesight ahead of you.

My optometrist told me not to do Lasik until after I finish LS for precisely this reason.

After my 8 hour take home crim final, I took my reading glasses off and stood up and my distance vision was noticeably blurrier. At an eye appointment over winter break, my optometrist said that my rx had gotten worse for the first time since 10th grade.

I'm sure UCLA will try to match Vandy's money since they're peer schools (ie. same exact ranking).

How does one go about negotiating scholarships at UCLA? Just call up their financial aid office? Call up admissions?

I just sent an email to Rob Schwartz with my other offers and he replied pretty quickly. Good luck!

I got WL today via email. They say that in recent years they've had over 20% of their class be off the wait list but do any of you know how much UCLA really pulls from it? I know some schools use it a lot and for others its a lost cause

Applied right after Thanksgiving and still nothing from UCLA. I guess it's been a weird cycle/the school's admissions dept. is slow but I do feel a little annoyed since I applied to USC at the same time and I've heard nothing from them either. At this point it's hard not write the school off completely, though I would appreciate a formal, emailed rejection. Just wish I could get the application fees back though :D

If you don't mind answering, what was you initial offer and did he help any? What were the other offers? PM me if necessary.
Thanks

I know the feeling. Applied 11/19, not a word since. I have a friend with almost the exact same stats as me (just a .02 GPA difference) that applied in January, and he was waitlisted 2 weeks after. It's a good thing there's no status checker or I'd really be going crazy. USC is just slow, but I don't know what's going on with UCLA.
