Re: UCLA 2011-2012 (class of 2015)
Quick question to all who applied to UCLA - after submitting I got a processing confirmation from LSAC, just like I had from every other school. I know UCLA doesn't have a status checker, but do they send a "complete" e-mail? I really don't remember getting one (submitted 11/19) and now I'm worried something went wrong.
Did anyone else not receive a complete e-mail? And if this is something I should have received, how should I go about checking in on my application without seeming paranoid and annoying to the admissions office?

When I applied I did receive an e-mail to confirm the receipt of my application. Then I received another when my application was complete. If you haven't heard from them (any e-mails), I don't think it would hurt to call and ask.

Re: UCLA 2011-2012 (class of 2015)
UCLA is currently my top choice. 171 LSAT, 3.76 LSDAS GPA.
I submitted sometime in January (took the December 2011 LSAT and was waiting for the new score).
What are my chances, you guys think? Not URM here. Took LSAT three times (159, 159, 171) and had to take a year off after graduation to get the better LSAT score.
No decision as of yet. Would it be stupid/too early to send in a LOCI to emphasize that I REALLY want to go there? Even if I get into T-14s, UCLA trumps them all.
Thought I had a chance at U.C. Berkeley, but was dinged, as were others with far more impressive numbers (ridiculous).
Stanford is obviously not going to happen either, so UCLA is my top choice. Kind of was all along.
So far U.C. Irvine is looking like my top choice. Haven't heard from USC yet, but if I get accepted there and denied from UCLA, I'm going to have a hell of a time deciding between U.C. Irvine and USC.

Re: UCLA 2011-2012 (class of 2015)
I went to an admitted student reception for "Double Bruins"/those who also went to UCLA for undergrad, last night and it was very nice. Everyone seems very happy to be there and spoke high praises about the school, professors, staff. Dean Schwartz and the other admission staffers were really welcoming and approachable. It was a small group of us (30ish) but it made me <3 UCLA even more.

My one concern about UCLA is geographic mobility. I have only spent one day of my life in CA and that was in San Diego, so I'm not sure if California and I will fit. Thinking of spending a few extra days in L.A. after ASW...anyone else want to do this and potentially share the costs of a hotel room?

I've lived in socal since I was 6 and specifically in LA since I was 18 so I can answer any questions you might haveGeneva wrote:+1vto35 wrote:I went to an admitted student reception for "Double Bruins"/those who also went to UCLA for undergrad, last night and it was very nice. Re: UCLA 2011-2012 (class of 2015)
2PM Today:
Edit: It's cool Robert, I knew I was a longshot anyways. I surprised you even held onto my app this longAfter careful consideration of all aspects of your file, the Admissions Committee regrets to inform you that your application for admission to UCLA School of Law has been denied.
The Law School is reluctant to reach a decision that precludes an applicant from undertaking the study of law at UCLA. In reviewing applications, the Admissions Committee exercises its best judgment in light of the relative qualifications of those requesting admission and the limits on the size of the student body. As has been the case for many years, the number of qualified applicants far exceeds the number of persons who could be accepted. This makes the admissions process extremely competitive and means that we have to turn away thousands of highly desirable and competent applicants.
Best wishes in your future endeavors and thank you for your interest in UCLA School of Law.
Sincerely,
Robert L. Schwartz
Assistant Dean
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

Wow — sent in my first LOCI last night, and had a personal reply from Señor Schwartz within an hour. At 6 p.m. on a Saturday, mind you. Plus he signed it "Rob Schwartz," you know, because we're pals now.

When did you submit your app? I applied 11/19, got the complete e-mail a few days later and haven't heard since. UCLA is still one of my top choices, so I'm considering sending a LOCI - too soon or justifiable?

I sent it to Admissions and CC'd him. Have you written to him directly before? I bet he'd reply — I only mentioned his response because he really stands out as the friendliest admissions person I've dealt with in this whole process. Other schools' people have not been so nice (looking at you, Hastings).paulshortys10 wrote:Did you send it to him directly or to Admissions? I didn't get a reply from him ;(
I applied 12/10 and heard nothing for two months before the decision; I think that's how UCLA rolls. As for LOCI strategies ... I don't really know about writing before they waitlist you, but I doubt they'd auto-reject if you sent a brief e-mail mentioning you still love them.hookem12 wrote:When did you submit your app? FWIW, I applied at the end of October and submitted a LOCI mid-January. While they responded to the LOCI, I still haven't heard anything about my decision. Considering I have marginal numbers, I take it as a good sign.hookem12 wrote:Ubermaus wrote:Wow — sent in my first LOCI last night, and had a personal reply from Señor Schwartz within an hour. I kind of liked how UCLA doesn't have a status checker at first, but now that it has been over 3 months of pure silence, I'm starting to rethink that position. I was SURE I'd hear from UCLA before USC given how slow USC has been so far this cycle, but no. Definitely didn't see that one coming.
