Have any admitted students heard anything about the Epstein Program? Any news on the timeline?

My friend visited recently and his tour guide got in off the WL in april but another student he met didn't get in until the day before orientation week. Insane.

I didn't get any merit scholarships, but I would expect that they are probably not going to give too many out. There was a big UC tuition increase last year and the law school absorbed the price increase, so don't be surprised if they're not forthcoming with the scholarships.

As for double bruins, I am not one, but there are something like 50 double bruins in our class of 320. I know of at least one who got in off the WL. I have also heard that it's harder to get in as a bruin undergrad. Good luck.

If you get in, you have a soul breaking year of drudgery, sleeplessness, poor diet, and declining eyesight ahead of you.
1. When should 0Ls start looking for housing? Is late July/ early August too late?

2. What are you doing 1L summer?

I'm not him, nor even in, but...

I would say ASAP on housing, and don't forget to consider the dorms.

i haven't gotten in at ucla, but i'm ucla ug, so as for housing, i would wait until may/june at the earliest, because that's when students move out. looking now is just useless, unless you just want to see what's out there. i suggest you live south of wilshire (meaning NOT in the heart of westwood) because you can still take the ucla bus (free) to class but the apts are better and a tiny bit cheaper... also you won't be near frat row/drunkards all the time. or if you're more grown up (prefer a more autonomous existence outside of undergrad world) i'd suggest culver city or south of santa monica (the street, not the city) near sepulveda. i used to live in that area (i'm closer to culver city now) and it's very fairly priced (for LA), you're close to Little Osaka (tons of japanese restaurants), and it's quiet. Also, you can find more parking. Hope that helped!

Any idea if we can have travel costs defrayed if we visit UCLA a weekend other than the designated ASW?

I really want to visit but Berkeley's ASW is the same weekend and I'm really strapped for cash at the moment, so I'm stumped.

I already got one, though. I reserved my spot for UCLA's ASW in Feb. It would be more a question of transferring my stipend from the normal ASW to a later weekend.

I have a phone interview for their CRS Program in 1.5 hours... has anyone done one of these? its with the director of the CRS program. what kind of questions should I expect? I am going to be taking the call while i'm still at work and I'm panicking now/feel very under-prepared.

The director is super nice, so don't feel so stressed out! Just be your own advocate and articulate why you would make a good contribution to the law school community through the CRS program. You will also have to explain your experience with critical studies.

As a side note, she interviewed me early February, and she was hired to become the director just two weeks prior. If she's still interviewing candidates, there must be either a lot of CRS applicants or she has been slow reviewing applications, and I don't think it's the latter.

Also, I believe someone on here indicated that they received an acceptance a couple days after the interview. Hopefully you will be in that position! Good luck!

Edit: You may be asked to submit a recent writing example.

Keep your programmatic contribution essay handy and hope they just want to ask for more details? Good luck!

Just got done, it was only 20 minutes long...hmm. She seemed very friendly and positive, so I'm hoping that's a good sign. I spoke about my real world experience, post-grad studies, and international background and hopefully that gives me an edge over the many other qualified candidates. She asked about what area I wanted to work in after law school, what part of the curriculum appealed to me. I hope I was specific enough! Fingers crossed. I only had 1 question for her (about how many CRS graduates stick with PI work and we had a little "laugh" about how people give up and go into Big Law and our own Big Law experiences) but I told her I'd been researching this program for years (true) and had a close friend who graduated in 2010 and was a huge advocate of CRS at UCLA so I hope I get a pass on not asking more questions.

What's scholarship turnaround time usually like? I was admitted almost a month ago.. still no word.

This is really knocking UCLA out of my considerations, since I've gotten money from T14s.....

I believe if we're talking merit scholarships, you either get an offer with your acceptance or you need to negotiate it. You should email Dean Schwartz with your other offers and ask if UCLA can give you something competitive.

They also supposedly have already made more offers than they have available total. But GL if you try it.

no idea what's going on down there in admissions. friend of mine applied with 168/3.9 and got waitlisted too, and another with 180/3.7, which honestly they have no business pulling that wl stuff on him (he's going to harvard anyways). i'm starting to think it's cause all three of us are ucla undergrads
Wow. That is incredibly weird... I don't understand what is going on with these admissions!
