I don't think residency matters as much for UCLA. AFAIK Cali schools aren't required to reserve any seats for in-state. For the past two years the class has been around 65%~ residents but that's likely also due to self-selection. However, it's possible that they are simply more cautious when admitting OOS applicants as UCLA is for the most part a regional school. I can see how they might YP someone with solid numbers and is OOS as it's more likely that applicant will decide to matriculate elsewhere.eaper wrote:What is Cali's regulation on in-state %s, if you know?ekbrown09 wrote:I should probably have added that I am a California resident, so that probably has a lot to do with it! Hmm ok, I knew some state schools had regulations about instate %s, but this also makes sense. Thanks for the input.Errzii wrote:I don't think residency matters as much for UCLA. Well, it could be like Errzii said. Or they could be trying to raise their rankings some by being more selective. Who knows what they're thinking? Or I could have just said something they don't like T_Tmoneybagsphd wrote:Why is UCLA WL so many well-qualified applicants? This shit is starting to freak me out.

Are all these WL and rejection emails coming out in blocks? Or should I be panicking every time I get an email for the next couple of days/ weeks/ months?

It looks like they're coming out in blocks, just judging from this thread. Acceptance calls have been over the last few days, I believe.Green Glass Windows wrote:Are all these WL and rejection emails coming out in blocks? Edit: They call for all acceptances I have seen.

Same here. I'm OOS. Still haven't had a single review at USC either, so I might get entirely shut out of Cali. Waitlist emails sting.

Well, I haven't been waitlisted yet, but I feel a WL or reject coming quickly. I haven't had a single review at USC either and I'm also OOS. Not my favorite.rowingmyboat wrote:smokeylarue wrote:Just got WLed too. 172/3.6x. Applied way back in October. Slightly offended, don't think my numbers are YP worthy. But oh well lol. I'm in state and in at ucla but not a single review from USC either since complete early nov so might not just be about OOS for USC.Green Glass Windows wrote:Well, I haven't been waitlisted yet, but I feel a WL or reject coming quickly. Re: UCLA 2011-2012 (class of 2015)
My friend applied as a transfer UG student and was told she was certainly qualified enough to go to school there but was rejected because she wasn't in state, so I thought that they might favor in state residents (however, this was in 2007).Errzii wrote:I don't think residency matters as much for UCLA. I found this article in their school newspaper suggesting the opposite-that they are looking for OOS/international applicants. (Not sure how this applies to law school) http://www.dailybruin.com/index.php/art ... se_revenue
So I guess I'd agree with the above poster that they would YP those who are more likely to matriculate elsewhere-particularly if there wasn't much to show "why UCLA."
I'm OOS, submitted 9/30 and complete 10/7, a splitter and tailored essay to UCLA. I haven't received a decision yet, but have been accepted by Michigan, GULC and NU. Not sure why they are holding my application so long

Re: UCLA 2011-2012 (class of 2015)
The policy is entirely different for undergrad. It used to be much harder to get in, transfer or not, if you were an OOS. Now that's changing a bit because they want the higher tuition $$. However, i don't think it matters so much for law school.foxylaxy wrote:My friend applied as a transfer UG student and was told she was certainly qualified enough to go to school there but was rejected because she wasn't in state, so I thought that they might favor in state residents (however, this was in 2007).Errzii wrote:I don't think residency matters as much for UCLA. I think this is due to the relatively small difference between in-state/OOS tuition for law students - $44k vs. $54k.jeninamillion wrote:It used to be much harder to get in, transfer or not, if you were an OOS. I have just received an email that says "As a recently admitted student to the UCLA School of Law, you are invited to an all-expense paid visit to Los Angeles!"
Does anybody know what "all-expense paid" means here? I'm a little afraid to become excited and then disappointed in the near future.

I'm in! Got the call earlier today. I'm OOS, submitted 12/5 and complete 12/6. I didn't tailor my PS to UCLA, but I wrote something for programmatic contribution.

I thought someone else had mentioned this, but I couldn't remember where...thelawschoolproject wrote:I got an email to call them for an interview? Has anyone else had this experience?
But, since I like your avatar, I did some digging and found the post by Ti1Her0 on page 13 of this thread:
So I'm reporting back late but I was accepted at the end of December! ... I should mention that I contacted the admissions office several days before (to ask about my application status) and was actually invited to interview with Dean Schwartz. It caught me off guard since I did not know UCLA did interviews but when I met with Dean Schwartz he told me he had been actively meeting with other applicants this cycle so maybe it's a new thing that they're trying out for people with borderline numbers (similar to GULC's interview process?). Or maybe it's specific to the ED pool? ...

Yes, I was invited to a phone interview a few days before I was admitted early December. It's about my programmatic contribution statement.
Stats: GPA at 75%, LSAT below 25%, OOS, non URM.
