So what does everyone think about these tuition increases? Every year in-state tuition has increased approximately 15% and out of state tuition has increased approximately 6.5%. Do you think the trend will continue this year, making tuition $21,515/$40,548?! If so, do you think in-state is still a good deal considering the small scholarships they give?
2012-13: ?? Won't know until July!
2011-12: $18,709.80/$38,074.50
2010-11: $16,386.60/$35,751.30
2009-10: $14,227/$33,592
2008-09: $12,339/$31,704

To be fair they have been doling out larger scholarships as well.UMiamiCane wrote:So what does everyone think about these tuition increases? I'm sorry, but this question has been asked many times throughout this thread.ValerOn1820 wrote:what does it mean? no decision reached/ The decided to wait with your application or it means denial>?
It means just that- no decision reached.
I added some FAQs on the first page of this thread, one of which answers this question.

I am surprised. My index is a 3.95. I thought I would be an auto admit.

You calculated your index wrong, regardless your numbers are definitely an admit. It seems that everyone who applies to UF gets the NDR status before the decision reached-letter in transit. You probably just won't have to wait as long as other people, like myselfwolf wrote:I am surprised. My index is a 3.95. I thought I would be an auto admit.

From earlier in the thread:
5.80+ gets you in
5.749 - 5.65 gets you in March/April
5.649 - 5.60 gets you wait listed
Is this generally accepted? If so, I feel a bit better about my chances with a 5.66 index with in-state.

Because this year's index formula changed from last year's, I don't know that we can assume anything about the index numbers. All I know is that so far this year people accepted in December were 5.8+ and people accepted so far in January have been 5.74ish (I think)+. Sounds like it's on so far, I guess we'll see in the next couple of weeks.noleknight16 wrote:From earlier in the thread:

I've heard that they are going to cap it at 21k. I really hope that they do, because if the trend continues for the next three years we will all be paying 27k for in-state in our 3L year. That's more than OOS at Kansas.UMiamiCane wrote:So what does everyone think about these tuition increases? But even assuming that they cap it at 21k, I don't think in-state is really a "good deal" anymore. It's just an okay deal, assuming three things: 1. you have no ugrad debt, 2. you'll do anything to get good (top third or better) grades, and 3. you spend all three years networking and marketing yourself.
With a decent scholly and low CoL in Gainesville, I think that I'll be able to keep the debt load around 60k, give or take. With the income-based repayment options on Stafford graduate loans, I feel confident that 60kish would be a manageable debt load given the current status of the legal market.
And from what I can tell, UF Law grads seem to be getting jobs. I've contacted a lot of the students listed as club officers of the different law societies (as most of those listed as officers actually graduated in 2010 or 2011), and they've all mentioned that they're now working at law firms full-time. Out of the 10 recent grads that I've spoken with or observed, 9 got full-time legal work and one is going for his LLM at Miami. The 7 of the 9 are working in cities in Florida (Miami, Tampa, Tallahassee, etc.), and the other two work in Atlanta and NYC.
All of those anecdotes seem to jive more or less with the employment statistics put out by UF, which inspires some confidence for me. Of course, it is worth emphasizing that all of those people that I'm talking about were officers in law societies and their experiences may be unrepresentative of the success of the average UF Law grad. But that just reinforces the point that networking and involvement beyond academic success is going to be vital to making the investment in law school worthwhile.

Re: U. of Florida c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Pretty much, except I think a lot of people below 5.8 will start hearing back soon. I'm thinking that 5.8+ is auto-admit, 5.7+ will probably be admit from January-February. 5.65 is probably admit from January-March/April. 5.6-5.65 could be waitlist territory. Below that probably a lot of dings.noleknight16 wrote:From earlier in the thread:

It's all just best guess though, but that's what I'm thinking.
BTW I've seen a lot of talk recently about in-state and OOS as if the admissions standards were lower for in-state and tougher for OOS applicants. I sincerely doubt that UF gives any preference to in-state applicants. It's all numbers. In fact I think I've actually heard Michele Adorno explicitly say that there is no preference for in-state students.

As of 2 cycles ago there was definitely no preference for in state students. So unless things have changed since then I wouldnt give it any weight.

I live in Tallahassee and I just got mine today! Acceptance! 160 and 3.99. My LSAT isn't that high but my GPA, personal statement, and LORs have thankfully saved me this cycle!

When I lived in Central Florida I know the mail always used to take three business days to get to/from Gainesville.

Ok, you might actually live closer to gainesville than me... my only issue is that I am not actually in my house in florida, and my mother is very quick with the "throw away everything in the mail that's not for her." lol,VanillaBear wrote:Yes, I got the Final Decision, Notice Issued status on the 9th, and I live in Georgia about four hours and 460 miles from Gainesville.broncos_fan_26 wrote:was yours sent on the 9th?VanillaBear wrote:I got my acceptance letter today!!!
