Got in via snail mail yesterday. NOW, the big decision. I recently visited FSU, and was quite impressed, but I feel I'd be doing myself a disservice not to at least check out UF. FSU is closer to home but I started this process with UF as my top choice.

Looks like I am going to be a Gator . I was wondering what the weather is like? How bad is the humidity? Also where are most people looking to live? I couldn't go to the ASD so I feel like I missed out on a lot

The Continuum seems to be really nice? Decent space and its all-inclusive in regards to utilities, parking, etc. Single-bedroom is expensive but the 2-bedrooms are very reasonable..anyone interested? Anyone recommend other places?

I feel like this was addressed somewhere in this thread, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a Facebook group for admitted students?

Places mentioned earlier were 50/50. I just wanted to see more input.

Weather is nice, generally, but can get cold in the winter. Humidity not so bad, but I'm from the south.
Continuum
+new
+walking distance to downtown bars, restaurants
Not really a bad bike ride to the law school?
Professional/grad housing, so presumably quiet
The apts closer to the law school all look awful to me
I'm guessing the only downside to continuum is price, you may be able to rent a house for what they charge, dunno.

Great, thanks for your input! I'm almost definite that I will be staying here but I also noticed that the Bartram was nice too. To rent a house don't you need a couple roommates? Thanks again!justonemoregame wrote:Weather is nice, generally, but can get cold in the winter. Humidity not so bad, but I'm from the south.

Houses are about 1500-2000 per month plus utilities. 775 for a studio is too expensive imo, but I have a pretty sweet deal in the condo I'm in. I know people that are paying about 750 a month for 1/1's. Does Continuum have a washer/dryer in every unit or is it a facility? That would be a HUGE deal breaker for me, but again, I'm spoiled.aykim2188 wrote:Great, thanks for your input! Re: U. of Florida c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Just a headsup, there is no good bus from the Bartram stop to where the LS is located on campus. I guess if you are driving a car/scooter every day it doesnt matter but if that is the case then another mile away can get you wayyy better bang for your buck. Not to mention, from the bartram to the LS is a decent little uphill which doesn't sound that bad but if you walk or bike that trip in gainesville weather you will show up to class pretty sweaty. From the continuum to LS it is all flat straight down university ave, so a nice little bike each way.aykim2188 wrote:Great, thanks for your input! I'm a late admit to UF, and have spent much more time exploring the likelihood of my future as a Seminole (which is tough to swallow given that I grew up a Gator fan, but went UG out-of-state). From what you are saying and from my own research, it sounds like rental prices in Gainesville are substantially higher than those in Tallahassee. This has always been a factor in my law school search. Housing prices (along with tuition) was one of the key issues that knocked Miami out of the running. As someone who is contemplating a visit down to UF to compare it with my recent visit to FSU, are prices really this high? Do things get cheaper as you get away from campus? If the answer is a resounding "no" I guess that it means Gainesville is merely more evidence that the further south you travel in Florida the more expensive it becomes to live.Houses are about 1500-2000 per month plus utilities. 775 for a studio is too expensive imo, but I have a pretty sweet deal in the condo I'm in. LSAT is right. I live close to campus in an apartment. My 2/1 is $660 a month but a 1/1 is $750, possibly higher. Tallahassee is cheaper, but I don't think it's because Gainesville is further south - I would guess that it's because Tallahassee is the capital and has more going on whereas Gainesville is just a college town.JerichoJohnny wrote:I'm a late admit to UF, and have spent much more time exploring the likelihood of my future as a Seminole (which is tough to swallow given that I grew up a Gator fan, but went UG out-of-state). Re: U. of Florida c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
LOL at the bolded. There are plenty of places in "south" florida that I would bet are cheaper than Tallahassee. That rule only really holds true in the tri-county area of Palm Beach, Broward and Dade. The housing near campus is definitely more expensive than the housing farther away, but then you have to buy gas more often, so it depends on your priorities. I fill up my tank maybe once every month because I live so close. From what I recall of my FSU housing search when I was thinking about going there, the same was true there as it is here, but I want to say the cost of living was slightly higher there(although I can't say for sure since it has been over a year).JerichoJohnny wrote:I'm a late admit to UF, and have spent much more time exploring the likelihood of my future as a Seminole (which is tough to swallow given that I grew up a Gator fan, but went UG out-of-state). I lived in a 3/1 house a quarter mile from campus for 500 plus 1/3 utilities. Then again, ive also lived in a 2/1 house about 5 miles away from 300 including utilities with a huge yard. It all depends on how close you want to be, how many people you want to share a bathroom with, etc. You can find places to live at almost any price point.

The Continuum does have a washer/dryer in every unit. Also has a covered garage which is a plus for me.LSATmakesMeNeurotic wrote:Houses are about 1500-2000 per month plus utilities. 775 for a studio is too expensive imo, but I have a pretty sweet deal in the condo I'm in. based upon the people's responses above it seems like the Continuum and Bartram are very expensive compared to other places. Do you guys have any other recommendations for luxury apartments other than Wildflower (don't want to drive 15min).

I know I've seen a few UF Law students post in this thread. Does anyone know anything about Camelot, Cazabella, or Camelot apartments?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
