WUSTL is one of the most (if not THE most) collegial atmospheres one can find in a law school. The environment is outgoing and downright friendly. I got there the night before and ended up walking into bar review (by myself) as it was about a block from my hotel. Now, I'm not normally one to just crash into situations like that. I tend to feel reserved or out of place, but this feeling dissipated immediately when I got there. I told one of the first students I met that I was an admitted student, and from that point on it was "Where are you from?" "This drink is on me" (I'm a dude) "you have any questions?" "Oh, you need to meet my friend.... Hey [name]! Come over here! I want you to meet Tool. He's a prospective student [introductions], etc....."
Anyway, the point is I have never been around such a large group of immediately-welcoming people before, but it wasn't unnerving in the least, if that makes sense.
The actual Admitted Student Day was nice. The building is obviously beautiful and well-designed to promote student interaction. By the time the student panel had rolled around, I felt like I didn't really need to hear it because I had had such an informal and ongoing "student panel" since the night before (this obviously wasn't the case for everyone else). Walking around that day on campus, I had current students who I had met the night before coming up to me and saying hello. Most even remembered my name.
Anyway, the day culminated with a special reception for us, but there is also an on-campus happy hour (free bud products) from "4:30 - ?????" in the building every Friday that gave everyone ANOTHER chance to speak with current students and socialize.
The school is full of extremely intelligent people. And while there may be a few "gunners," most of "them" are quiet about it (e.g. "closet gunners"). Everyone is down to help everyone - that was the vibe I received.
Ok, I think I've taken up enough space for the time being, and I have to get back to work. PM-me if you have any further questions.

You've been accepted to UVA with a 75k scholarship... why are you concerned with your app status at any non T6 schools? WUSTL is a fine law school... but I can't imagine you'd be seriously considering it, even on a full ride, vs UVA with that scholarship.

What a douche... I've been accepted at great schools, even a T6, and I'm seriously considering WUSTL.ryemanhattan wrote:thelawschoolproject wrote:I love hearing wonderful things about wonderful schools in wonderful places....

Seriously? There are an infinite number of potential reasons someone might have for wanting to hear back from WUSTL with acceptances and money elsewhere. Good luck not being a dick when OCIs come around.imadude wrote:+1. I think the poster in question is from Missouri, which would perhaps explain the situation.tmon wrote:Seriously? Just so I can get a full and fair view of this entertaining tiff, what is an OCI? Thanks.

False. Perhaps thelawschoolproject wants to attend Wash U because she likes their program, or has a geographic preference. Wanting an acceptance from a school that she genuinely wants to attend is not at all condescending.imadude wrote:+1. However, imadude and ryemanhattan, implying that the only reason anyone would want to attend a given law school is its ranking comes off as incredibly pretentious. Don't be that guy.

I'm not implying that. I'm somewhat considering UDenver over Northwestern myself right now. Quarter million in debt = not so cool. But rankings in the top 20 or so does matter, or rather, is indicative of things that matter. I have a lot of respect for WUSTL. But UVA is golden.woodscommaL wrote:False. Overlooked that lsproject is from MO. If she is offered a near full ride at WUSTL (which is quite possible) and wants to practice in the midwest, or specifically St Louis, I could see considering it over UVA, even with that super tasty 75k.
But, for reals, if you want to work anywhere outside the midwest, ever, WashU is never going to make sense over UVA with 75K, unless you received full tuition plus living expenses and a pony named sparkles.

nope. you guys come off as condescending for imagining you can make her decisions for her. This attitude of "You have higher schools, go away" is rude, and as a WUSTL undergrad, I can tell you that it's not in the spirit of WUSTL students to act that way.imadude wrote:+1. And the email says I'm being considered for a "Scholars in Law Award." Is that just a fancy name for the scholarships they give out to people?

In!!!!! Didn't expect to hear back anytime soon! From STL originally so WUSTL is still uber prestigious in my mind. Really exciting news and my first news of the cycle. Helps soften the blow of rejection from applying for UG.
Also, @ tmon: I received the same message in my email. I'm thinking it's probably standard but I'm hoping it means we're on the fast track to full ride offer, amirite?
