I imagine it has a lot to do with the decline in the number of applicants - the kind of candidate they admitted in the past few years is probably getting sucked up by the lower T14.

For those admitted off the waitlist with scholarship, how did you find out about the $$? Was it included in the phone call or e-mail?

Are these numbers per year or total? If they're per year, could a more knowledgeable figure explain why they give more cash to people off the waitlist than some direct admits?

Because at this point their medians/averages are pretty well set, so they are filling gaps very strategically to get one final boost. They know most people on the WL have set their plans for next year in motion, and it takes quite a bit to get people to change their plans so late in the game.
Seems like they are giving out the big bucks to higher GPA with mediocre LSAT (from the very small sample I have seen on this site and lawschoolnumbers). Worth a shot trying to get some more money if you have similar numbers to these big schollys coming off waitlist. Worst they can say is no.

Eh, I'm the other side of that coin, so I can't really muster any outrage. Makes sense.

If you have either a GPA or LSAT over the 75th% or perhaps both over median, I would try hard to negotiate it- Wash U is definitely not a school that is "out of funds" like many other schools at this point in the year. However, this assumes you have an offer at another school you'd be willing to take...

Have not. I have until Monday to decide, and will probably put it off until the last moment.

ETA: Actually, at this point I don't think they care what your other options are. They just care if you are thinking about not attending and fucking up the medians they are planning to having now.
If they believe you are seriously considering not attending for whatever reason and have a GPA or LSAT they are counting on for their projected medians/averages, they may very well offer you more money so they can mark you down as a “sure thing”

Just declined my scholly/seat in the class for a very late T14 waitlist acceptance. I hope my scholly/seat becomes a great late-cycle surprise for someone out there. Good luck to all, WUSTL is a fantastic school and I was ready/excited to attend.
