Thought I'd post this here but Cornell's medians are 168 (no change) and 3.66 (3.70). This was after calling them yesterday.

I seem to remember hearing some negative views on EA last year. There were plenty of people who got deferred to RD even though their numbers suggested they were good enough for Cornell. Anyone have any info on this?

I don't think submitting for EA hurt those people. I only remember like one person who was convinced that Cornell YP'd them by deferring their EA application and I did not find their explanation compelling.

So on the Cornell flexi-app or whatever, there are two places to put your 'Why Cornell'. One is in a designated text box, and the maximum amount of characters is like 999 or 1000. Then there is also the option to add it as an addendum, with no designated length stated. Sooo, do you think I can add a Why Cornell that is over 1000 characters as an addendum and just ignore the other part?

FWIW I just wrote a short summary in the text box and told them to see my addendum for further explanation.

Was your addendum longer than 1000 characters?

My Why Xs are all about a page. Cornell is one line over a page right now 11 pt font... struggling to cut it down to exactly a page.

do you think I need a why Cornell essay if I was accepted last cycle without one? My gpa is 3.5& LSAT is above median. I only ask because I was planning on submitting the application tonight at midnight but don't want to hurt my chances by not giving it a why X. essay.

I won't be submitting one. Very little yellow on the right side of the LSN graph.

I'm going to do the 1000 character one, because I'm sure I can knock that out in twenty minutes. But I gotta do that this weekend.

Yea, I don't think Cornell is one of the schools where a Why X makes a huge difference... I just have a lot to say because it's really one of my top choices so it wasn't too difficult to write a Why Cornell for me. I'm sure you all will be fine, especially Tiago with numbers which I am oh so envious of.

Good luck to everyone! I wish I could submit at midnight as well but I have to be up at 5 am for work tomorrow, arg. Will try to submit early in the morning if we're slow at the office. Pretty excited for this app to be sent.

Wait, for some reason my application just got reset--does Cornell not have Early Action anymore?

edit: why you fucking with me, LSAC.org?

double edit: no fee waiver. crud.

After looking at the application again, I'm getting the feeling that the 1000 character "Why Cornell?" section is their equivalent to other schools' "Additional Information" section where they ask you to check off the reasons you are applying (e.g. you attended a law school fair, received some of their propaganda, saw their USNWR ranking, etc.).

I wouldn't worry about it just yet. I applied last Saturday, and received the email confirmation that they received my application on Wednesday.

What are your numbers?

You should post in the "what are my chances" thread. Conversely, you could do some research on http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com and http://www.lawschoolpredictor.com

Nobody can really quantify your urm boost, they can tell you what your chances are etc. The SEC conference thing is irrelevant.
