My status actually changed ten minutes after I got the email.

This. Numbers above 75ths. Glad to start the cycle off with an acceptance - especially at Duke!

Same! This was my rule in undergrad: "please don't let the first one be a rejection."
It wasn't... but most of the rest were :?
Hopefully I can break that trend this time around haha.

Yeah, it was. From what I've read, it could be as many as 4+ hours or immediate.

Checking in. App went "Ready for Review" on 11/8. GL all.

I got a hand-signed letter from the Dean of Admissions so I think that's a good sign; either way, I like the personal touch, made Duke stand out for me.

I'm not an admissions officer, but I really doubt it will have a significant negative impact if you have a legitimate reason for being concerned. Most of the ED contracts / FAQs I've seen on sites pretty explicitly say that you shouldn't do it if financial aid would be a determining factor in whether or not you attend. I feel like if ED does anything, it just indicates to the school that they are your top choice; if Duke still is your top choice, then you could probably just say that in the "Why Duke" if you didn't already / haven't submitted, or include it in a letter regarding why you need to change from ED to RD.

Anyways, I think factors like you GPA, LSAT, PS, and Recs will have a much bigger impact on whether or not you are admitted, so I kind of doubt that changing to RD for legitimate reasons will have any appreciable effect.

Just my 0.02. Not an admissions officer, so...

EDIT: Also, your GPA and LSAT look fine in terms of Duke's numbers, so I wouldn't really worry on that front. I got in with lower this cycle, so I think you'd be fine :)

EDIT (again.. last one): Two quick things: (1) Wasn't forum sketching (I just also happen to be anxiously waiting on the Cornell forum too haha), but it sounds like you thought Cornell was an ED plan when you applied... If you thought Duke and Cornell both had ED plans, why apply to both (applying ED to two places is kind of explicitly not ok)? (2) And then I forum sketched and saw the other thread started on ED-->RD. I don't think not realizing that ED could impact your scholarship chances falls under "legitimate financial reasons for changing ED-->RD." Nothing about your resources actually changed, so it just seems like you didn't read most of the FAQ stuff that schools post on their sites and in the ED contract, which doesn't look that awesome since applying ED implies you really considered your options carefully and looked over all the relevant info available in making your decision... Either way, I hope it works out for you. Your numbers still look great and I'm sure you'll have good options anyways :)

thank you for the reply.

Duke is and will be my top choice. However, before I submitted my app, I thought I could afford to go even without a decent scholarship. Now my family got into some financial trouble due to some sudden changes. I figure that if Duke does not offer me a good scholarship, I wont go, at least in this cycle. But I already submitted my app before this change.

I did explain it in my email but I am really worried that it might hurt my chance. I should have started the app for RD not ED in the first place.

Edit 1: As to Cornell post, I posted in the wrong thread. I was intended to post in Duke thread but I made a mistake.

As long as there's a financial reason outside of not reading the ED contract and site FAQs carefully enough (i.e. there's an actual significant change in financial circumstance) and you explain this, I think it would be overly harsh to consider this a strong negative on your app since your decision would be based on information that changed after you submitted your ED contact. That said, I'm not an admissions officer and what I think is harsh may be standard practice. It's just been my experience, so far, the admissions committees are willing to hear and take into consideration valid explanations for a variety of otherwise negative aspects of an application. They may wonder if those explanations seem to accumulate in one file though... idk...

Like I said, this is just my opinion, and either way, I hope it works out for you.

Thank you all for the reply.

I wrote them a letter explaining in detail the situation. I think I have made the point clear. It is not because I dont love Duke or I did not read the information but because some unexpected changes that I need to switch. Hope they will understand.

Same here. RD non-PT. Anyone know how long they're taking on non-PT applications?

Much, much longer than 10 days. As far as I can tell, only a couple of people on TLS/LSN have been accepted RD, and they both applied very early.

LSN data from last year seems to indicate that most non-Priority Track applicants will begin receiving decisions in early/mid December (regardless of ED or RD).
