Maybe its based on having one significantly higher than their 75th or something to make the 10 day decision thing manageable? Seems most in this thread have LSATs at 173+, so that may be their floor. Is there even an easy way for them to search via our GPAs? I got fee waivers before mine went complete due to missing transcripts... I am wondering if the determining factor is actually just LSAT.

Hm, I do have a 173. Anyway, if I don't get priority track I probably won't be applying.

Yeah, I don't know if they can search GPAs easily so it is probably based on the LSAT!

Well that would be strange though because someone else has their LSAT as 173 and they got one. Maybe they can search both. It would be pretty strange to be using a single metric and just randomly selecting some and not others that meet the standard.

It sounds like your numbers are competitive and in the range. You can always call and ask to be considered. The worst they can say is we don't do that. As long as your nice and talk positively about being eager to apply, I can't see them dinging you for it. And like you said, if you won't apply otherwise then you really have nothing to lose.

Schools do weiiiird stuff in finding people to give fee waivers and things to. People with the same LSAT as me and lower GPA got them from Columbia and I didn't, as well as people with lower LSAT scores and no GPA reported. Sooo it's all pretty much a crapshoot.

Yeah, it seems quite random and not consistent, so I figure I may as well request a waiver if I don't end up getting one. Hopefully it won't hurt. It seems in previous years a lot of people requested waivers and received them from various schools so I am sure as the cycle goes on, we'll figure out which schools are providing solicited waivers.

Just finished writing my Why Duke? essay. Hopefully this allows me to avoid YP.

I'm completely shocked that I got the PT email. My stats are 3.55/172. I was not expecting anything, and wasn't even sure it was worth getting together an application for Duke. I guess I'll throw my hat in the ring. Silly me, I did some research and got all excited about the school. Now I'll just be crushed when I get that speedy rejection.

You're certainly a splitter, but the 172 LSAT is above their 75th percentile. I certainly think you have a shot.

I often forget that Duke is a school. Can someone convince me that I want to go here?

So how good are our chances of admission when we apply PT? Should I write the Why Duke essay, or is a diversity statement enough?

There's a burrito place that's open til like 3 am only a short walk away. Maybe that helps.

Uuh, and plus I am applying here.

Are you guys gonna write the Why Duke essay? Is a DS enough for me?

Hmm...I'm going to try to get my apps done as close as possible to my LSAT because I need to hop a plane out of the country, so I might sketch something out just in case. Plus, I actually already went and visited the school, so I have actual "why Duke" reasons. But this is keeping in mind that I have little hope of having a diversity statement.

They do YP, so I would do one or the other.

do it. nothing wrong with name dropping; it helps you convince them that you are basing your decision (to want to attend Duke) on information from credible sources.

Hmm. I'm not so sure. If you do name drop, mention the name once and move on. Talk about what you learned, not how well you know someone.

I'm kinda curious as to what she said in terms of pros and cons if you wouldn't mind passing along some wisdom.

Agreed. Obviously focus on your reasons. Mention the Dean briefly only to establish credibility.

I think it also gives credibility to the fact that you are seriously looking at their school by hunting down alum or what not. I guess that's the main point anyhow of the Why X so I would do it. As long as it doesn't look like a name drop and she/he said something that really struck you as credible, then go for it!

Sounds good to me
