Dinged. Glad they could make all of us wait the extra three weeks in agony. That was really special of them.

Dear moneybagsphd,
I write to inform you that your application at UC Berkeley Law School has passed an initial administrative review and has been selected for further consideration by the Faculty Admissions Committee. The Committee will begin deliberation on your application on February 17. We anticipate a final decision will be reached on or around March 9.

Thank you for your patience.

Edward Tom
Dean of Admissions

Yes, at glance without pulling up the one I got, that is the same e-mail with substituted dates. Heck, we have already identified that Berk likes to reuse e-mails since rumor has it no one has even actually been rejected yet for the class of 2015, and the ding e-mail (at least earlier ones from THIS cycle) said class of 2014.

RE: your comment about fewer/more admits for FR1 vs FR2: I scoured last years threads and it really seems like many more made it in this year than last from FR1. Well, I should say more TLS'ers, since I have no idea what it looks like outside this community/LSN. I hope for you all the same holds true.

What might be helpful (not for the sake of anxiolysis but speculation) for you FR2 people- if someone is feeling super motivated and enjoys number crunching, take the LSN info and compare the number of decisions for all categories given during FR1/2 to determine how large FR1/2 was. Since, like I mentioned earlier, it appears that more acceptances went out this year for FR1 than last year, I wonder if they increased the number of applications they put into Faculty Review. Probably need to compare admits prior to 2/16 last year to this year. If the number of admits is much fewer (while also taking into consideration delinquent updaters like myself), this could be the case. The pessismistic perspective would obviously be to view the high number of admits from FR1 as resulting in fewer spots for FR2, though I haven't done any numbers gaming to determine anything like that.

Mine said 2015 after the first round of FR:
Dear XXXXXX,

After reviewing thoroughly your application for admission to UC Berkeley School of Law, the Admissions Committee has decided, with regret, not to offer you a place in the Class of 2015.

Our decision was not easy. The majority of our applicants are well-qualified to pursue the study of law, and indeed many of them are qualified to pursue that study at Berkeley. But with more than thirty applicants competing for each place in the class, our choices must be highly selective. Although our review process is thorough, it is also human, fallible, and in part subjective.

You are to be congratulated on your accomplishments, and I hope that you will be admitted at other law schools. If Berkeley Law remains your first choice you may wish to consider applying to transfer at the end of your first year at another ABA-approved law school. Transfer applicants are evaluated primarily on their first-year performance, and we offer advanced standing admission to 40-45 students annually from an applicant pool of approximately 250-300 candidates.

I am sorry that this letter must convey disappointing news. We wish you all the best in your applications to other law schools and in your career. Thank you very much for your interest in Berkeley Law and for entrusting us with your application.

Sincerely,

Hey guys, looking for a little advice on my Berkeley craziness.... I've been WL @ Penn & UVA already, had thus have decided to LSAT retake in June to try and get the bump. Would anyone recommend for/against sending Berkeley an email while under FR2 saying I'm taking the June LSAT in hopes of a WL?

I also have a low LSAT and am in a similar situation. I have thought about this too-- The only argument I would have against an email like that is that maybe your LSAT score is not hurting you as much as you think? You are in FR. and at Berkeley, I always thought FR was the more "holistic" part of their process. If your LSAT is on the lower end, an email could potentially draw attention to that and give you a WL when you might have gotten an acceptance if the low-ish LSAT had gone unmentioned/unnoticed..

That is EXACTLY my thought.... I think I'm going to let it be, and see what comes out of it. If it's a wait list, perhaps the lsat bump can help... if it's ad admit, I throw a party and burn my LSAT prep books! :)

I just got under 2nd faculty review. I was hoping I had a good shot here, but apparently only 1/7-1/8 of people under FR make it:(
165/3.8 half AA female, desperately hoping to get into Berkeley.
So far, no rejections and no T14 acceptances.
Maybe I should retake the LSAT in June? I feel like I can crack 170 if I put in more study (can't afford a prep course), but I really don't want to wait another year before starting school.

It's absolutely worth it to wait another year. The difference in employment prospects between schools is staggering.

What if I get waitlisted and crack 170 in June?

Aqua,

Where did you find that only 10-15% of students who get a FR get an acceptance letter? Thanks.

Honestly, why is Berkeley just so random with their admissions? Do they really think the quality of a 2-4 page essay and a story or two about one's background is a better measure of merit than LSAT/GPA?
