I did not even get a status check website. Did they send it to you?

This is not good. Nothing in my junk mail. I don't want to bug them. I'm terrified of looking like someone who can't follow instructions. Let me go to the Berkeley website and try to find it myself. If you could send me the website from your e-mail, I'd be grateful. Did they send a passwd? Wait...this is what the Berk website says: If you have not received an email containing your login and password
Please be patient. We send these in regular batches as new applications are received. You can expect to receive an email containing the information you need to check your application status online within approximately one to two weeks after submitting your application.

remember to breathe.

I could give you the link but they give you a unique password for the login so I don't think it will be of much help. If it were me, I would follow their 2 week timeline, and if nothing, then call. Make sure to check LSAC first, to make sure the application went through.

I saw this comment on LSN which sounded helpful: "But Berkeley is also up-front about the fact that they heavily favor those who apply early. So if you apply in sept with anything above a 170, you're nearly guaranteed green no matter how unlikely you are to attend; but if you apply later than 10/15, and they suspect you'll go HYS anyway, they reject to protect yield."

Impossible, that sounds very unfair. 10/15 is pretty early to say no more accepts after that with above 170 scores.

Earlier than 10/15 = "interest" ? Dunno about that...

Yeah 10/15 is really early especially since that would exclude all Oct test takers. But if you look on LSN it does seem that people who applied really early and were complete by Oct had much better results.

As much as I'd like to believe that is true, it is ridiculous to believe that Berkeley auto-admits all 170+ that apply before 10/15/2011.

Well that is good for us then, but I don't think we would've had problems at Boalt either way.

I dunno... I'm actually worried about Boalt because of their holistic but seemingly random process. They have definitely rejected people with our numbers.

Don't be worried. Remember the wise words:

"I will do nothing of purpose, and the people will be transformed of themselves; I will be fond of keeping still, and the people will of themselves become correct. I will take no trouble about it, and the people will of themselves become rich; I will manifest no ambition, and the people will of themselves attain to the primitive simplicity."

Ahem, i think we have reached silly season on this thread. I'm logging off to go eat a holistic dinner.

EMZE wrote:Mine was 3 pages and a bit more. I had 2 PS's, the 2 pager, and the 2 and a half pager for the schools that did not set a hard 2 page limit. I then took that Why Cornell essay that they mandate on their app, and turned it into a Why Berkeley, because my reasons are pretty much the same. Inserted that at the end of my 2.5 page PS, blended the language, and bam.. theres the long essay for Boalt.

On a side note though, I have read somewhere (maybe here) where the Dean of Boalt specifically says how they give you 4 pages as an opportunity to make yourself stand out, so I kinda think they are hoping for applicants to use the given space.

Yeah I remember reading that too, which is why I asked. Good call though, I guess I can slip in some Why Berkeley stuff to get at least another half page in. Thanks!

No problem. Just don't make you PS too good. Your numbers already blow mine out of the water.

haha well your softs definitely wipe the floor with mine so... try to slip in a typo or two for me as well please :)

I think it depends on there being valuable content. Mine barely made it to the 3rd page, and that was just it's natural ending. I got a call from Dean Tom 4 days after I submitted my app. There's no formula.

What was the reason for the call, might I ask? Was it a JR1-style interview?

spek is right. As you guys may have already heard, there also does not seem to be a formula for who gets calls vs. emails of acceptance.

First time posting in this thread. First off, good luck to all! My PS was only 2 pages. I was admitted early, but by email as opposed to phone call (actually, I randomly popped on the status checker site one day and it said I was in. The email followed a couple hours later).

We should see the first wave of decisions coming out in the next 3 weeks or so, right?

I certainly hope so! Last year they started Monday before Thanksgiving. I will actually be in Berkeley then so I am crossing my fingers and toes and praying!

ETA: http://twitter.com/BoaltAdmissions: It's an exciting time for us -- still on the road talking to prospective applicants, but also beginning to read files. Busy, but exciting!

amc, im in the same boat which is a relief. I haven't gotten a status checker either and submitted on 10/28 so we should probably give it a few more days.
