I don't want to be the bearer of bad news... I always like to stay positive, but I looked over last year's thread and for those who didn't get FR.. doesn't look good. Like us, there was a mix of borderline numbers and high numbers ( 175+) who were all denied over the next two months. If they follow last year, there will be a wave of rejections tomorrow. Alot of us will who did not get FR will get past the wave of rejections and wonder why we made the cut...but it seems like the rejection catches up to them in the following weeks. There was someone who went UR 11/01, did not go into FR and didn't get rejected until March

This was like a hurricane on my parade. Oh wellz, Berkeley would have been nice and I wouldn't have to move, but part of me is excited about moving for lawl school...

I want to move, I just don't know where I'm moving to. Do you live in Berkeley or in the city?

None of the above. I actually live in Emeryville (which is pretty much where the graduates from Berkeley who don't want to move to the city live).

No, stats don't mean anything now... If you look on last year's thread 163, 3.9 non urm was accepted over a 177, 3.8. There was actually quite of few instances like this

well i dunno if this is good or bad news but I haven't gotten the FR email and am still UR 11/22 in the status checker.

I'm the same, I don't think its a good thing at all.

I've been mulling something over, folks. Let me know if I'm wrong please.

If there are 1,600 total reviewed for FR, wouldn't that be spread out over the 2 FR batches (given there are two this year)?

And if that total is spread out, wouldn't there be a smaller number of applicants per FR batch than that total of 1,600? (Meaning to say, there aren't 1,600 of us vying for the 200 spots for the first FR.)

And with that smaller number per batch, wouldn't our chances of getting in increase? At least better chances than with the original 200/1600 calculation. Also, better chances with the first FR because all ~200 spots are still available. Obviously, we don't know the exact number of people chosen for the first FR and for the second but it would definitely be less than 1,600 per FR batch.

What do you guys think? Is my math or logic wrong?

Oh lordy. I'm obviously trying to give myself a better glimmer of hope here.

1) There are 2 faculty reviews, and if you're in the 12/12 UR group like me, barely a month has passed by.
2) IslandGirl had a 3.7/157/non-URM (minority though) and was accepted off the wait list.

I told myself to give up on Berkeley, but that was a silly overreaction. Here's to all of us still waiting, wishing, and negotiating with the big man (or woman) upstairs.

I did not (applied 1/9, UR 1/18), and my sense is that no one did***. It's not really clear where the cutoff is for whether a person got into this batch of faculty review, or if any strict cutoff date exists.

Yea, that's what I was trying to figure out. I went UR on 1/10, and didn't/haven't (hoping) received anything. I went to Cal for undergrad, so I already know my chances of getting in are low, but I am still optimistic.
