My sympathies. This Berkeley cycle is very odd.erikjc wrote:10/27FryBreadPower wrote:11/14msblaw89 wrote:+1Boston_NYG2245 wrote:No news today huh? I know it's early (11/22 UR), but I'm getting antsy....

curious about the socioeconomic section
as someone who had a fairly privileged upbringing (private school, wealthy zip code) do you think its better to answer none of the questions or answer them truthfully?

I started filling that section out and then began to feel ridiculous. So I clicked the "doesn't apply to me" box at the top. I got in, so here's proof that clicking that box is fine.viacavour wrote:curious about the socioeconomic section

I think that section is more for people like me who grew up in an under represented area where people are unlikely to graduate high school let alone go to law school.

I answered them truthfully (I grew up in an upper middle class area and all my friends graduated, went to college, etc.) and I got in, too.calitodc wrote:I started filling that section out and then began to feel ridiculous. Yeah. I mean, if you don't have anything that will make you stick out due to overcoming adverse circumstances, it might be best to omit it.lfrawley1101 wrote:I think that section is more for people like me who grew up in an under represented area where people are unlikely to graduate high school let alone go to law school.
That said, I went to a $10k/year private school (FWIW, it probably was worse than the local public school) with 99% college matriculation rates, grew up in a wealthy, whitewashed zip code and filled out all of this information and they still let me in, so I doubt it can hurt you.

I don't think filling it out can hurt you, but I don't think skipping it in that situation would have hurt you either. Its probably only an advantage to fill it out if you actually do come from an area that's not well-off.

if i am a twin, does that count as diversity? i mean i don't think it does, but is it worth it to write in an addendum about it now that i've already completed my app? when i first submitted i left it out thinking they'd just look at that and say 'who cares?' and i'd looks a fool for mentioning it, but now i'm having doubts.

I mean it "counts" in the same way that red heads or trained rodeo clowns or people who grew up in Sweden will add diversity, as with them it won't give you an iota of benefit in and of itself.THATSHOWYOUGETANTS wrote:if i am a twin, does that count as diversity? i mean i don't think it does, but is it worth it to write in an addendum about it now that i've already completed my app? when i first submitted i left it out thinking they'd just look at that and say 'who cares?' and i'd looks a fool for mentioning it, but now i'm having doubts.
That said, I think it's a great opportunity to present an element of your character through the fact. Write about the perspective it's given you, how you've had to go to extra lengths to differentiate yourself... make it quirky or funny if you can and think it would be appropriate.

Re: Berkeley c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Diversity is simply what makes YOU different from other people. Being a twin is certainly different. I think most of us get stuck with the stigma diversity must= ethnic minority; tri-lingual; international ambassador... but it really can be anything that sets you apart. Maybe you are a culinary expert, fitness guru, or the youngest of 10. Maybe your parents are mentally ill/ disabled and you had a unique upbringing. So many things can count as diversity.THATSHOWYOUGETANTS wrote:if i am a twin, does that count as diversity? i mean i don't think it does, but is it worth it to write in an addendum about it now that i've already completed my app? when i first submitted i left it out thinking they'd just look at that and say 'who cares?' and i'd looks a fool for mentioning it, but now i'm having doubts.

Impossible. They gon't have rodeo in Sweden, only Neshörmhångsgrönsakäljning, which is sort of like rodeo but they ride seals and if any of the candles in their hair goes out then they are disqualified.THATSHOWYOUGETANTS wrote:what if i am a redheaded swedish rodeo clown twin? does that count or is that just horrifying?addy11 wrote:I mean it "counts" in the same way that red heads or trained rodeo clowns or people who grew up in Sweden will add diversity, as with them it won't give you an iota of benefit in and of itself.THATSHOWYOUGETANTS wrote:if i am a twin, does that count as diversity? i mean i don't think it does, but is it worth it to write in an addendum about it now that i've already completed my app? when i first submitted i left it out thinking they'd just look at that and say 'who cares?' and i'd looks a fool for mentioning it, but now i'm having doubts.

lol okay. i'll write them something, i'm sure they'll put it in the who gives a shit pile but with my numbers i'll take anything. any thoughts on if it's worth it to send in term grades? i mean my overall gpa will probably only go up a little, but would it help if you're already under review?

I think the rule is that if you change by at least .1... so you go from a 3.6-->3.7 send in the new grades.... but if you only go to a 3.65 don't botherTHATSHOWYOUGETANTS wrote:lol okay. i'll write them something, i'm sure they'll put it in the who gives a shit pile but with my numbers i'll take anything. any thoughts on if it's worth it to send in term grades? i mean my overall gpa will probably only go up a little, but would it help if you're already under review?
