Count me in. I love Berkeley and it's one of my top choices, since I want to do public interest. I've heard some awesome things about Berkeley for PI. Here's to hoping, since they're so random in their acceptances!

Walked around the campus today. Unless a miracle happens Oct 1 I do not think I will be applying.

The new wings are absolutely beautiful. The new library is pretty impressive. Good luck to everyone applying- just remember that the PS is crucial for Boalt! The second most important part of your application would be diverse life/work experiences, third is GPA, and last would be LSAT. However, if all of the others are strong and you are admitted, LSAT seems to be the strongest factor for $$.

Berkeley, you are so strange: my biggest reach but not close to the highest ranked school i'm applying to.

Today I went through my boxes of clothes that I left behind when I went away to school. Inside were a couple of Berkeley shirts that I didn't take with me because I was bitter for the rejection for UG. It still stung a little looking at them lol. Would it be weird to include in my PS that even though I was denied as a transfer student I still love them and want to go to law school there?

What are everyone's thoughts on Berkeley's socioeconomic part of the application? I grew up in a nice area, but my parents are not paying for law school and I don't want to disclose their income. I guess that's why it is optional...

The socioeconomic section was strange. I filled out everything except the parent's income section (because, while I could guess, I honestly don't know.) just for honesty's sake.

Does Berkeley not offer fee waivers? Solicited or otherwise?

From when I emailed them...
Berkeley Email wrote:Berkeley Law School offers a need-based application fee waiver program which is administered by Law Services. Merit-based waivers are not offered.

We will waive your application fee if you are approved for an LSAC fee waiver. If you apply electronically your application fee will be waived automatically. If you submit a paper application, simply include a copy of your LSAC fee waiver approval letter with your application.

Fee waivers are available to applicants who are current participants in public service programs (Peace Corps, Teach for America, AmeriCorps, etc.), or who have special circumstances. For more information and to access out fee waiver application form, visit http://www.law.berkeley.edu/39.htm after September 1. Submit the form with proof of your participation in a public service program.

If you have special circumstances, you may submit the form with supporting documents to the Admissions Office.

The deadline to submit an application with a fee waiver is January 13, 2012.

Thanks! Their website implied that was the case, but it didn't mention merit specifically, so I thought maybe they just hadn't gotten around to sending them. Well, it saves me having to extend my PS. I wanted to have more than one school in Cali to mull over and visit, but I guess I'll save myself the $75 until I can get out there.

Is it general wisdom that the PS for Berkeley should be near 4 pages? They say that's their maximum, but it seems like a lot of people talk about extending it for them.

I am going to try going a little more 'in depth' for them, but while keeping in mind the whole 'succinctness is a virtue' idea.

What is everyone doing in terms of the addenda? A "Why Berkley"? Or nothing?

Do you think we could write a why berkeley? I was thinking of just making my essay longer to include why i want to go to berkeley but it's not strong that way, and it's getting too long and disconnected. Is it a good idea to keep the PS short and add a why Berkeley or better to just combine them??

^ Nothing for me, my PS is long. Hoping to go complete by Nov. 1. Anyone else bemused by the "optional" LORs?

Still working on my essay. When can we submit the application? Oct 1?

ETA: I see these two questions on the app:
Are you applying for an academic scholarship?
Are you applying for a need-based scholarship?

I'm a bit confused about these questions; nowhere do I see an application for any academic or need-based scholarships with the Berkeley application. Anyone know what schollys this is referring to?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
