I'm sorry! Hope you can negotiate something.

Where's the 80k/year figure coming from? What I saw online was closer to 75k (I took off the 2k for "computer" because I have one that works just fine)

This is where I am as a 1L. Haven't regretted it yet, but I'm 100% in for public interest and won't be paying most of it back myself. It's a lot of money, and something to think about with your eyes open. Not the kind of money to jump into and then close your eyes and hope it vanishes.

Thanks for the encouragement. bk1 told me pretty much the same thing, that he doesn't regret it. (And I think he's going for biglaw.)

My personal situation has changed recently, making the financials more complicated, but I still think it's the right decision. I am considering deferral, but it's so expensive that it feels like one of those situations where the timing is never perfect so you just have to go for it. It's not going to be any cheaper next year.

Thanks. I don't really have anything to negotiate with and I kind of already laid my cards on the table. I mean, I never expected to get anything when I applied, so it's not exactly a shock.

Taking off the computer, it's a little over $77k. Maybe increased tuition and/or COL expenses were revised upward?

Does it have the budget broken down into tuition/room & board/transportation/etc.? The website still shows last year's budget.

I don't know if they will revise the COA budget, but that doesn't really matter (since you get to choose how much you want to borrow). Tuition is going up 3% next year.

Just checking, these award/lack of award emails are going to your regular email, right? Not your Northwestern accounts?

Did you have to fill out anything before they offered you a scholly?

Need Access, FAFSA, and two essay questions submitted in an online form. It was due March 1.

I'm kinda shocked you didn't get $$... i've been silently rooting for ya bro for months. hope you make it to NU.

I'm still waiting patiently to hear from them. . . don't know if all of the scholarship awards were sent early this morning and on friday -- leaving award letters sent this afternoon and tomorrow all loan packages-- which would put you and me in the same boat. ..

Thanks. I'll make the decision tomorrow for sure, but I really like NU and really want to go. Just gotta tough it out. And in the scheme of things, it means I may have to tough it out in biglaw a little longer than I'd want to. But who knows? Maybe I'll get a firm that I like. One of the things that I really like about NU is that if I do well at OCI, it gives me an opportunity to get a job that will pay down my loans that I might actually enjoy, rather than some run-of-the-mill biglaw job.

On notifications, it's been an even mix. Some people on Friday reported non-scholarship loan packages. Good luck!

I totally agree with you ... NU is my top choice for the same reasons. But yeah, Big Law wouldn't be so bad for just a few years to pay off the loans... Thx for the luck. You're a real class act. Wish you the best.

Yeah I'm aiming biglaw and don't regret it, but I do question it at times. We'll see if I feel the same way when I graduate or even a few years after graduation, but I think it'll still be glad I made the decision.

Though looking at some of the scholly awards this year I do feel myself slightly wishing I had waited another year before applying. :P

I don't regret going to law school. However, the debt load has scared me enough to do OCI. I'd love to do public interest, but the economy isn't very great for government hiring or non-profits. I'll still apply to a ton of government stuff and if I can get a full time long term job, I'll take it. But it's a hard market out there. I still think things will be fine financially in the long run.

Are you talking about scholarships or loans as well? I'm sure there are still plenty of people who haven't received loan information (not sure about scholarships).
