Looking at that top left corner on LSN they're showing NO early love for reverse splitters this year

Yeah, they've really been pulling from splitters, but haven't yet reached below 170 all that much. I bet they'll be admitting tons of reverse splitters in the next few weeks or so, though! Gotta keep those GPA medians up XD

It is a splitter-friendly school, so splitters will be admitted sooner, though reverse-splitters will be fewer and further between than at other schools.

I just got a 2nd complete update today, a week after my first. Does this mean I will go UR soon?

Submitted 11/16, went to complete on 11/27. It's been under review since then (I'm assuming because of the heading), but the date updated on 12/28 and has been stuck since. How long did people stay on the first review? Or would this be the second review since the date changed after the "under review" heading went up? I'm becoming more and more anxious. Do you think it'll help my chances of getting in if I sent a late "why NU" essay? I'm just afraid that this will put me at the end of the line again.

I thought I had a decent shot at Northwestern with my 3.5x/17x/softs and work experience. I did the interview and wrote a Why NU, but I'm still stuck at 10/4 complete. Oh well .

It could definitely be helpful to send it in and at this point, "bottom of the pile" should still get a decision soon.

I think some RD people have gotten in. However, there are still a few ED stragglers, myself included.

It could be optional for many reasons:
1. Because it is one less thing for them to read for the auto admits/auto rejects.
2. Because it makes people on the fence about NU research it and potentially find something about the school they really love
3. It could be a test to see who wants to go there vs. people just throwing out apps to every school they get a waiver too fishing for acceptances
4. They are intrigued about what students find attractive about their school to better highlight those factors for next year’s recruitment.
5. They are sadistic people who enjoy making students beg for their supper.

No matter the reason, if an adcom says he wants something in an app, you should probably put that thing in the app.

I didn't do a Why Northwestern? essay, mostly because I had an interview and felt it would be adequate to express my interest. I got in Friday. So it's clearly not make or break, but given Johann's tweet it certainly isn't going to hurt you.
