Do you think they would count as URMs? And what about the Pennsylvania Dutch? or the Mennonites? Is it kind of like the Hispanic, but not-URM Hispanic distinction for them?

Just posters. Lurkers don't count.
Well, 4480 people applied last year...

I really have no idea how many TLSers would have applied. Only 28 have NU listed in their TLS stats, but what percentage of TLSers actually fill that out?

If you put a gun to my head, I'd guess 100 TLSers applied to NU, but that's a total WAG. That would be 2.2% (assuming the same number of applicants). If the number of applicants goes down like LSAC and some other schools are reporting, then maybe closer to 3%. I'm totally off on my # of TLSers, that could be as much as an order of magnitude off.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if TLS posters represented more than 5% of the applicant pool. Makes you wonder...who are those weirdos in the other 95%?

I'd love to see the 25/median/75 stats for applicant pools. There've gotta be some Special Snowflakes applying to the T14 with a 2.0/155 because someone told them that being secretary of the pre-law club and candystriping at the hospital would make them auto-admit at Columbia.

I also wonder if many people are actually well-informed BEFORE discovering TLS. (Lord knows I wasn't.) Maybe people who've had a friend/sibling go through the application process recently.

Haha, this was me last year. I don't even know HOW I got through the admissions process other than randomly stumbling through. Lord knows how I made it into Columbia.

also, I was the secretary of the pre-law club in my first year of UG :P

I was a straight up idiot planning on applying to New England Law before TLS. Looking back, I just don't know how I managed to be such a halfwit.

Speaking for myself, I was horrendously uninformed before TLS. I have a friend who is currently a 1L and she turned me on to TLS. Granted, I wasn't considering law school all that seriously before TLS, but judging by the many coworkers I have had who were prospective, current or newly graduated law students, most people are pretty uninformed.

Did you catch that thread several months ago where LSAC hosted a Q&A session with some law school deans? They showed four real applicants to GW (with identifying information changed) and discussed the reasons for their decisions. All were denys and all were horrendous applications. I think only one person had numbers that were anything resembling competitive at GW (but still under both medians IIRC) and that person had like five alcohol-related arrests over the previous four years. I'd go back and find the thread, but the apps are likely down now. So, yeah, I think it's safe to say that law schools (especially the higher-ranked schools) get a lot of apps from auto-rejects.

I mean, I think the really sad thing about law school admissions is that most of those mistakes are perfectly rational to make if you're just going by undergrad admissions. Undergrad admissions is all about softs; the most persistent advice is not to think you're totally in anywhere just because of your gpa/SAT. Maybe I was naive during undergrad apps, but I definitely got the impression that minor variations on the SAT weren't important. Because of that, I never thought to retake my high 160s LSAT until years later.

And while some schools definitely open way more doors than others, going to a podunky school isn't the death sentence that going to a bad law school is.

I'm sure that was it right there. Even scarier is I was fully prepared to turn them down for a full ride at Chicago-Kent. My how TLS has saved my life.

Pre-TLS I was on the verge of applying to Florida/ASU/Arizona, because the thought of studying by a pool sounded good to me.

Come to think of it, TLS may have robbed me from a warm 3 years and a sweet tan… I mean, if I am not going to have a job coming out of law school it would at least be nice to have that tan.

You might have at least ended up at a T1 school. I was fully expecting Chicago-Kent and IU-I as realistic options. (IU-I would have actually been okay for what I wanted to do with a JD at the time.)
