Congrats to everyone who got of the waitlist today! Did you all write LOCI's or visit the school? Strategy tips?

Yes, I wrote a LOCI every 3 weeks. Just make sure you have something new to add.

For me, I was only WLed about a week ago. So, I just sent a one and a 1/2 page LOCI where I basically told them what I had to offer the school. I took the position that they know I want to be there, so my LOCI explained to them why they shouldn't pass me up. Personally, I feel if you are WLed, the time for humbleness is over, you have to market yourself without coming off as a dickhead, though. They already know/believe you can excel academically, so my advice is to sell them on what you bring to the school, student body, ect.

Has ANYONE successfully negotiated for a scholarship increase from UMN?

This is the year of the waitlist. Schools can't decide what their class size will be and how many students are holding multiple acceptances.





At one time I was holding 14 acceptances. Now I am waiting on 4 waitlists, including Minnesota.

I am waiting on 6 wait lists. 2 that I care about haha.

I withdrew all acceptances. I'm so determined to get off at least on of the two WLs. please law school gods smile upon my name on the wait list!

That's a "ballsy" move!

ballsy, but it was a smart decision.

I don't want to risk paying tuition at a school I partially want to attend and then attempt to transfer and maybe not get in. I would rather wait a year than take that kind of risk.

I had two acceptances at T2 schools. All my T-1s wait listed me. yikes. I hope this works out!
I did mention in the LOCI I would withdraw from all pending apps. i keep my promises haha. dedication!

I don't blame you. I withdrew from T1 school acceptances and am holding onto a full scholarship from a T2 while I wait out the waitlists.


I am still trying to determine if I can stand a Minnesota winter though.

I can bear the winter..getting off the WL would send an adrenaline rush that would warm my body up for the next three years.

I am afraid that my adrenaline would only last until finals when everyone is extremely sick, it gets dark at 3 pm and the thermometer never gets above 0, and I have to walk like a duck so I don't slip on the ice.

Yea, they specifically said at the ASW that they make the best offer they can when initially accepted.

That's kind of what I figured. I'm a WL-Admit, and was not @ ASW.

Just withdrew with significant $$. I hope it goes to a deserving TLS-er!

Has anyone figured out housing yet?

I found a roommate on the admitted students FB group, and she's going up to check out places this month. There seem to be quite a few people still looking on there.

My wife and I are flying up the end of this month to look at apartments, but really don't have any idea where to start. Are there any reasonably priced buildings to look at? I'd like to stay clear of undergrads, but at the same time wouldn't mind being close to campus.

I second this. I'm single, but I dread UG students and loud noises. The good news is the law school is on the other side of the river. The West side has less UG's to deal with...

Me too. My roommate and I have no idea where we are going to live.
