Hey y'all I was waitlisted a while back and as the seat deposit dates are all quickly approaching I was wondering if someone who has been admitted can share when Minnesota's 1st seat deposit is due (I can't find it anywhere!...maybe that's why I was waitlisted lol).

I'm sure I'll end up making a deposit somewhere else with hopes of getting into Minnesota later but want to have an idea of when Minnesota might start making offers to those of us on the WL.

THANKS!

My packet is at home, but I'm 98% certain that the deposit was 4/20. From the admitted students site: "The $750 seat deposit is nonrefundable and is required of each admitted applicant to reserve his/her seat in the class. The deposit must be paid when due and will be credited to the initial tuition payment upon matriculation. Please check your admission packet for deposit deadline information. "

Perhaps the deadline date is different depending on the applicant.

Curious on what some of the current students think about how much my chances will be hurt finding a job in MN with no previous ties?

I PM'd you with the names of 5 people from all over the country who came to UMN with no previous ties. 4/5 of are 3L's. 4 of the 5 have jobs lined up, from what I'm aware.

I'm currently on the WL at Minnesota (would be a miracle if I got in with my numbers, but I'm glad they were interested!) Just wondering what your thoughts are on people being able to find work in D.C. (where I'd really like to practice) after graduation? There are some schools in the D.C. area I've been waitlisted at/accepted to as well that are a little lower in ranking (T25-T50). Not counting on getting off the waitlist, but in case I do, what are your thoughts? I know the number of people going to D.C. after graduation was lower, but I wondered if that is due to self-selction more than inability...
I can't answer the question as to the reason, although I will say I think that number is actually pretty good. For 2010, which was by no means a good year, we placed 14 in DC. See: http://law.umn.edu/careers/career-facts ... stics.html

I know we have an off campus interview program in DC for UMN Law specifically. I'm not sure of the number of people who participate in that program, but you are welcome to call Alan Haynes, our Career Center Director for further information on that program. His phone is 612-625-5284.

I don't. But keep in mind that it takes a bit to collect the data, as the surveys aren't sent out until 9 mos. after graduation. Considering we had a 100% response rate last year, I presume they'll hold out until they get every last graduate this year as well.

Quick question, I've been looking at apartments in the downtown area. My fiance will likely be working right downtown and we will likely want a place that's a little nicer than your typical college dwelling. Our take on it is if law school is gonna be stressful, home should be a breath of fresh air. So far the best areas for nicest places with decent prices seem like North Loop, Loring Park and Uptown/Calhoun area. Can anyone recommend any buildings that are really nice/any other websites besides rent.com and craigslist to find listings?

Tikitembo: its safe. Just hop on the 16, 50, or 3. Get off at Anderson hall/West bank once you hit campus. It's literally like a 3 minute ride from the dome.

Though, if you take a cab from the dome to the law school I can't see it costing more than 5 bucks so do whichever you'd find more convenient.

Is anyone besides me still waiting on an answer? No accept, reject or waitlist here... should I call, or are a lot of people still waiting on an answer?

My guess would be that your file is being held to review along with the last batch of applications. UMN's deadline is April 1st.

Yeah, my status checker still reads "in queue waiting for review."

I agree with the above poster; it seems they are shifting out the last batch of apps. We'll probably just go directly to "Decision."

There are a lot of nice places within a reasonable distance of the University and both downtown areas. I would try looking at the apartments managed by Dominium. 808 Berry Place, for example, is very nice and right on the central transportation corridor.

Here's a link to Dominium's website: http://www.dominiumapartments.com/apart ... ?region=MN
