Wow really?? That suprises me... Your above the median with both scores.
Median is 167 3.8. It's been 167 for three years and above 3.6 for over a decade.

Seems like they're pumping the LSAT this year.

Nope. UMN is a splitter friendly school. But as with any school, if both numbers are below the medians ( 167/3.8 ), chances are slim.

I understand why / all schools are like that. Still seems crazy that I was offered a nice scholly, but if answered 1 question differently on the LSAT (in which I had a couple pure guesses) I'd probably be a rejection. Obviously not complaining at all, just seems weird lol

Admitted friday by phone. Letter of Admission and Scholarship letter showed up on the status checker as 1/30 mailings. Now it shows a second Scholarship Letter dated 2/01. Anyone else have a second letter show up in their mailings?

To be fair, I would assume this person is a URM.

And while I'm ok with my waitlist, UMN has had by far the strangest cycle I've seen this year. I don't think you can really deny the LSAT preference here. Numerous people with 167 and sub-3.4's have gotten in, while most everyone with a 166 or below has been WL/denied regardless of GPA (myself included with what is now a 166 3.84). It appears they are pretty strict with the 166 LSAT median while being much more leniant towards the 3.8 GPA median.

Again, I'm not criticizing the school and am not upset with it. Just pointing out how suprisingly rigid their admissions criteria has been this year.

Doesn't really seem like LSAT preference as it does median preference

there seems to be a wall of 167 accepts on LSN graphs that goes all the way down to 3.09... but if you have a 166 it looks like you need a 3.8 to get (which obviously makes sense since its their median GPA).

The same can be said for GPA's.. If you have a 3.8 GPA a 160 LSAT is enough (If close to a 4.0 156/157 are getting you in).

I understand how unfair that is to those with something like a 3.7 / 166 getting rejected while a 167 / 3.1 is getting in. Just the way it is with medians though

ThreeRiver's response is correct. Shrederrr... UMN has been that way since Nick Wallace took over as Director (two full admission cycles and 1/2 of the Class of 2012 cycle.) Each school has a different admission strategy. UMN's is particularly splitter aggressive.

It's about a school's needs. There is a constant calculation of the rolling admitted/committed LSAT/GPA medians. If the school has a particular need for one or the other, you'll see a splitter with that direction being admitted - either directly or off the WL.

Higher LSAT scores are harder to come by than higher GPAs. With that said, you'll generally see a batch of admitted high GPA's later in the cycle - post deposit deadline.

Best of luck.

http://lawschoolnumbers.com/chrisrj1971/jd This here is a caucasion male with a 154 lsat and a 3.45 gpa, accepted at UM. Perhaps Minnesota is looking at the applications as a whole now more than they have in the past. Which is a GOOD thing... in my opinion anyway.

My 166 wasn't enough to get to get my 3.84 in. Oh well. I suppose I could ride out the WL, but I think I'll just withdraw.

Good luck to everyone else!

Okay well I actually just received my acceptance package from Minnesota in the mail. Full resident tuition scholarship for all three years, so about $112k. So grateful and excited. However, I am curious about the other scholarship letter, dated 2/1, that is listed on my status checker.
